A stay at The Bangala at Karaikuddi, takes you back to the traditional hospitality of India and specially of south India. The architectural details, the mosaic floors, the old photographs, conjure up the history of Chettinad district. The beautifully laid out property, with an azure pool, radiates peace and tranquility. The rooms are furnished with old furniture and artifacts and are airy, spacious and comfortable. The food at The Bangala is legendary, each meal a gourmet feast and each day bringing a new table setting with artistically folded napkins and silver-ware.The owner, Mrs. Meyyappan supervises every detail herself and joins her guests at the table. No words are adequate to describe the service given by the willing, smiling staff in their traditional white lungis and colourful sarees. A delightful experience. A great place to use as a base for travels to other parts like Madurai, Thanjavur and Rameshwaram.

It was indeed a pleasure to stay in this beautiful heritage property. Its not like any modern hotel with fancy amenities, but its pure to the heritage n tradition it wants to retain . The place has a very serene n peaceful ambience.. With a lovely swimming pool, and a small boutique shop , this place has a lot to offer. The amazingly curated chettinad menu is something to relish ! Would highly recommend this place for travellers who value sanctity for culture n traditions.

I stayed in room 33 while I was here earlier this month. I was made to feel welcome by the manageress Rukhmini Krishnan. My room was very nice, with a fan and a/c, mosquito repellent and earplugs (Mosque nearby). No television though. The meals here are superb and very filling. Lunch on the 1st day made me so full, I could barely walk afterwards, and I had to go and have a lie down in my room for a few hours afterwards. The pool area is lovely, with plenty of sun loungers and a great pool. Treat yourself to a Kingfisher beer or two. I went on a half-day tour on the morning that I arrived, which took in a few mansions, a tile-making factory, and a couple of temples. I skipped the Sari-making factory. This cost 700 Rps. Or so I thought! Upon checkout, there was an additional 1800 Rps added for the use of the driver who drove me and the guide around. If I had known this before the tour, I wouldn't have gone on it. I met the owner of the hotel, Mrs Meenakshi Meyyappan, who was very nice and asked me if I was enjoying my stay. I particularly liked chatting with Rukhmini while having dinner on my 2nd evening here. She's a very worldly wise and pleasant woman and a credit to the hotel. Also, thanks to one of the workers here that took me on a tour of the ATMs (without charge) to try and find one where I could withdraw some money - without success. So, to finish, I was very happy with my stay here and I'm sure that you'll be as well. After all, if it was good enough for Madhur Jaffrey (TV Chef), it was good enough for me.

We had a very comfortable bed/room near the pool. Mrs Meeyappam offers guests a feast every night. Each dish is better than the last. We enjoyed paya and quail to name just a couple of dishes. Everything was delicious. We had a short but most enjoyable stay. Best to contact the hotel direct for bookings
