Absolutely must visit

A must visit place for those who want to enjoy a calm and quite location. A true feeling of Kerala hospitality in God's own country. It is a beautiful house set in lush greenery and well managed by Nair aunty and uncle. The place has an authentic feel of the Nair tharavad. Shyamala aunty is one of the best hosts that I have met. She treats you like one of the family members. The food is awesome and beyond compare. She had enquired before hand of our choices and made the food to perfection. The added ingredient of love made it even more special. Nair uncle is so calm and composed and is God's gift to the people around as he offers free medical treatment to a lot of people. The place is well maintained and has its added comforts of modern Life luxury such as an AC. But honestly we enjoyed the well maintained house and the hospitality. Aunty even let us check out late as we had an evening flight back and didn't even charge us for it. She is very helpful in guiding the guests on places to visit and also helps with the travel arrangements. The place in itself is surrounded by greenery and a multitude of plays and trees planted by them. Every food item prepared there is genuinely organic. It is also close to all the places of interest such as temples, beaches and the fort. An awesome visit and a must place if you love serenity and quite in a luxurious Kerala home. And yes, you get a good network here though honestly I had kept my phone away to enjoy the peace.
Home away from home...

My husband and I started as strangers in Thalathoor Heritage on 31 Dec and when it was time to leave on 3 Jan, it felt as if we were leaving home ... We had 3 amazing days with uncle and aunty - aunty's food cooked and served with tons of love and her "kaipunyam" cannot be put in words - you have to experience it !! We also got to understand and experience the North Kerala culture and rituals (there was a theyyam on 31st). Aunty also explained to us in detail about the theyyams. At the temple we also met few people who invited us for lunch at the temple - we had gone there post lunch at aunty's place and hence skipped it. Since we had 3 days, we spent a morning walking through the huge property - there were many peacocks and it was a beauty to see them in the fields. We also spent an afternoon at the river and the hanging bridge. Also we got to taste fresh "kallu" from the coconut trees and spent an hour with chettan chatting up Dont miss the Chembarikka beach and Bekal beach and fort. Look out for events at bekal fort and beach - there was a agricultural/flower show at the fort and tourism fest at the beach happening during the new year time! No trip is complete without shopping - check out Kasargod Sarees shop and pick up the gifts for the loved ones!
At Thalathoor, we felt like we stayed with our own parents

Ours was a group of 6 adults & 4 kids from 3 families and we booked Thalathoor heritage couple of months ahead. You start getting that good feeling when Mrs. Shyamala Nair who is the heart and soul of this place starts coordinating with you on Whatsapp about your arrival, diet preferences, activities, etc. We stayed at Thalathoor for 3 nights and 4 days and below are my pointers on what worked for us: 1. This property is in the interiors and off from the highway, so it takes good 10 mins to get to the main roads and good 20-25 mins to reach any of the nearby beaches like Bekal, Chembirika, etc. The roads right until the property were well tarred and we could get our cars parked right next to the home. The last 20 meters is some gravel & mud with some cobbled stones leading into the property but nothing even a sedan cannot manage. Airtel 4G signal strength was strong enough for a few conference calls I had to jump on. We carried our own wi-fi so really did not check if they offered any. So, if you are someone who wants to get to the beach quickly or explore the town at the drop of a hat or dont have your own drive, then this property might not work for you. 2. We were given the entire upper floor of their heritage home consisting of 4 rooms and nice little common verandah. None of the rooms have a balcony given this is a heritage property. You will need to climb 10 big steps to reach the upper floor. One of the ACs leaked but was fixed promptly the following day. The biggest of the rooms has a swing. 3 of the 4 rooms had attached baths in them. The beds were comfy, bed linens were clean and fresh, you switch on the geyser for hot water, the water pressure is not great, but again this is a heritage property with its own other sweet charms, so we all slept well with some windows left open, fans running and AC switched on when we needed more cooler air. 3 of the 4 rooms had TVs but I dont think anyone had time to switch them on. 3. This is 5+ acre property and the host encourages you to take a walk around. They have a house dog which is kept inside a cage, it is friendly if you interact with it, but it sure will bark when excited or curious, so do expect some of that sound at times. 4. Shyamala aunty and her doctor husband as we experienced did not just welcome us into their homes but also into their hearts. You can tell they are not doing this for money but for the joy of hosting and interacting. They stay on the ground floor of the property and our meals were all served in the dining area adjacent to the kitchen on a nice round table. We were welcomed into the kitchen as well. Every meal is guaranteed to be a highlight and it is highly recommended that you partake all of your meals out here instead of a hotel. Shyamala aunty & her helps are passionate about cooking and serving. In every meal we had, there were at least 1 or 2 new dishes we had never eaten before like for ex: Banana flower cutlets, tender jack fruit sauteed/poriyal and the list goes on. Even the classics of Kerala cuisine like Puttu & Kadala, avial, Pulissery, unniyappam, chicken curry, fish fry, ada pradhaman, coconut pudding have such flavor and taste that you have no option to go for extra helpings which are dished out without any grimace because they are not counting how much you eat instead just care about how well you ate. We have never eaten this well and great at any home stay and felt so good about it. She even offered & insisted to pack some idlis and curry for the road for the kids, tell me who does that these days. 4. We had planned a houseboat sunset and dinner cruise as Shyamala aunty recommended booking/arranging that in advance and really had not planned any other activities. She suggested we try the fresh toddy collecting and drinking experience which was a first for us. She then organized for us to take a river bath in Kudumbur river near Karicheri bridge and this was safe and surreal and the local guide who took us the exact spot did a good job of arranging the parking for cars and ensuring we stayed on the shallow side with calm currents. Houseboat cruise turned out fantastic as well though I dont think i would recommend this beyond a couple of hours. Shyamala aunty suggested to check out kasargod sarees and we went to the cooperative and picked up some for gifts along with great cotton lungis and hand towels. We of course did the Bekal fort (best seen between 4 to 6), Bekal beach and other nearby beaches. All these venues will be 13-15 kms and 20-25 mins ride from the property. In summary, after driving for nearly 8 hours (with stops en route) we felt welcomed and when we checked out 3 days later after being treated to a gastronomical bumper wonder, we felt genuinely cared & pampered for and welcomed back again. Isn't that how you feel at your parent's or grand parent's place ? Next time we think Bekal, we would not think of any other place especially with family and friends in tow.

Had stayed at Thalathoor Heritage with my family, a month ago. The hospitality of Shyamala Aunty and Uncle was amazing. The place is calm and quiet and nice to get rejuvenated from a busy life. Had a great time and feeling blessed to taste auntys cuisine(Especially the raw mango juice and Ottupola(A Kasaragod special), which were delicious. Wish to visit the place again. Thanks for the great hospitality. NB: Do not miss the chance to visit the nearby Paddy field, the canal and river bridge.

I have been meaning to write a review on Thalathoor Heritage since I have returned to Bangalore 2 weeks back. We(Manish my husband, daughter Tanisha and I) stayed with Shyamala aunty and Dr Nair at their lovely home in Kasargod. We had the best time ever! The taste of the authentic Kerala food specially from Kasargod area and the variety that aunty served us was unimagiable and so yummy! Some of the dishes like puttu kadla, mango curry, dry mutton, prawn rice, fish were the best versions of these dishes we have tasted anywhere else. Other than the food , it was an authentic homestay experience in the truest sense. The great conversation we had with aunty made the stay truly memorable. Nair uncle was nice and affable host too. We had a great experience walking through the plantation. Aunty goaded us into waking up and going for Thaiyyam at 4 am to the local village temple and this was unforgettable experience! Thank you Shymala aunty and Nair uncle for everything.
If you are choosing just one room, then go for the one with the swing.
