Kaza, located on the banks of the Spiti River in the state of Himachal Pradesh, is the sub-divisional headquarters of the Spiti Valley. This place is visited by a large number of tourists, especially during summers when an annual trade fair is organised here. Many tourists also plan a Kaza trip to go for trek tours in the nearby valleys. Trekkers are advised to wear appropriate shoes so as to avoid any trouble or inconvenience while trekking.
There are many monasteries in and around Kaza to visit. The renowned Kye or Ki Monastery, resting at an elevation of 13,500 ft, is located in the proximity of the district. Tourists can find low height rooms and narrow corridors in this 'gompa' or monastery. The architecture of this monastery resembles to that of Thiksey Monastery in Ladakh. Dark chambers, passages, narrow staircases and small doors connect to the monastery's irregular prayer chambers. Some of its prime attractions are the stucco images, ancient murals, rare manuscripts and wind instruments. The recently built Sakya Kaza Monastery, inaugurated by the renowned sage Dalai Lama, is also famous among tourists.
Whilst enjoying their Kaza travel, tourists can visit the Dhankar Monasteries that are located at a distance of around 32 km. The fort of Dhankar is built on a strategic location, which was earlier used to keep a check on the trespassers. The monastery named Lha-O-pa Gompa, established between the 7th and the 9th century, is also one of the major tourist attractions of this place.
