Cinnabar is a beautiful place with really sweet accommodations and great food. Bala and Vasu went out of their way to make us comfortable and welcome. We had great meals and wonderful walks through the shola. They know everyone in Kodaikanal and made arrangements for birding, hiking and transportation. They shared many stories of the history and culture of the area. Thank you Bala and Vasu for making our trip so memorable and special.

I have stayed at 2 other home stays previously, but this was indeed the most special. Both Bala and Vasu work tirelessly to make their guests feel supremely comfortable and welcome them with great warmth. Every aspect of the stay was handled with a lot of care - from communication to arrange the logistics, the room itself - very homely with beautiful views, the meals - I could go on about this one at great lengths! With their philosophy of sustainable living, they indulge the guests with their fresh produce and quite simply they were the best meals I have eaten. They are full of anecdotes and each conversation gets more animated and cheerful than the previous. They helped us to plan our itinerary daily and went the extra mile to drop us to town every single day! We have come back from our 3 day break full of great memories. They are such an inspiration and would love to remain in touch with them for life. Wishing we could wake up to the sights and smells every day!

Cinnabar is everything a great homestay should be and very few actually are. It starts with the beautifully decorated rooms that would not be out of place in a fancy boutique resort. The food comes, more often than not, from their bountiful kitchen garden and is lovingly cooked by the hosts themselves. I am still dreaming of the home-made granola and apple crepes that we had for breakfast on our last day there. All this is topped by the hosts themselves - it did not feel like that we were meeting Bala and Vasu for the first time! They were warm, fun and interesting - can't ask for much more. It was my first visit there, suspect it might not be the last.

I am very avid traveller & often stay at homestays and smaller boutique resorts as I feel it helps me understand the place more and connect with more people. But even for someone with a lot of such experience, Cinnabar was a delight! Two tastefully done guest rooms at the back of the gorgeous main house, surrounded by a kitchen garden where most of the things you want to eat (and more) are grown. Tomatoes, Beans, Zucchini, Avocado, Plums, Kiwis. You name it and they have it! Bala and Vasu who run the homestay are one of the most warm and friendly couple I have met in a while. With suggestions on everything we needed to know about Kodai - shopping, eating, places to see. Though those were not the only conversations we had, for me one of the highlights of the trip was the many conversations with them. The food served is mostly garden to plate and artisanal style delicious meals with beautifully setup table at each time. The meals (breakfast and dinner) are served at their dinning room whereas there is ample tea and coffee in the rooms to take you through the day. Bala makes some excellent cheese at home and we tasted one of the best cheesecakes I have had in a while. If you are looking to experience the joys of a homestay with good hospitality and great food. Your search should end at Cinnabar ! I know I am going back soon :)

The guestrooms are in a detached unit at the back of the main house, quite private and very comfortably done up. One room is larger than the other. Both are spacious, prettily appointed with beautiful wooden furniture and dainty kick-knacks. They are furnished with water, tea/coffee tray and plenty of interesting reading matter. Breakfast and dinner are with the hosts. Prepare to eat sumptuously! They grow their own fruit and vegetables in their large garden, so ingredients for meals are quite likely to come from there. They write to guests beforehand to ascertain food preferences and restrictions and then work to that. They also opened up their comfortable sitting-room to us pre-dinner. They were very attentive to our comfort and ensured that we had whatever we needed. Overall, an excellent experience and one I'd recommend without hesitation.
