Ampthill was a wonderful place to stay. A very unique experience. Completely isolated from the hustle-bustle and in the thick of forests and grasslands. Clean air, superb location and great home food (especially pepper omelettes) make this place a clear choice for Kodai travellers. Definitely revisiting. Home to a wonderful owner in Mr. Babu and a courteous caretaker in Mr. Jishnu, who could not have welcomed us any better.

Had visited in the month of Jan 2018. The cottages are located atop of an elevated plain overlooking plain land followed by acres of dense forest. Well maintained cottages with fireplace in each one of them. Care takes are really friendly and serve good food. Nothing much to do there other than trekking to the nearby lake (which is beautiful). Its about 40km form kodai, but the travel time is long as the roads are not good. They could improve on the approach road to the cottages as they are in pretty bad condition. Would definitely recommend this place for nature lovers.

I always wanted to write a review on this place but missed doing due to my sheer laziness. Here you go one afyer my third visit. An amazing place to relax if you're a nature lover. A lovely rustic property loaded with essential basic amenities to enjoy the nature at its pristine beauty. This is my kids most favorite place for vacation in spite of it not having TV or anyother modern facilities and its our third visit. This property is in a farming village Poondi, 40kms away from kodaikanal. Entire journey you'll enjoy your ride through woody forests, breath taking terrains, beautiful villages surrounded by terrace farming that grows cabbage, beetroot, carrot, Garlic, broccoli etc. It's a two bedroom rustic cottage with required amenties maintained neatly by the caretakers. You'll wakeup to the chirping of birds like sparrow, woodpecker, Peacock and many others. Mesmerising meadows encircled with beautiful flowers will ease your thoughts and kindle your energy and bring the joy in you. A residential cook takes care of your taste buds by providing homely food with available resources. You shouldn't expect a wide variety of menu spreads considering its remoteness. Ofcourse, You could talk to them on your food expectation before you go there. Hot water doesn't come in pipes but would be provided to you as you ask for it. During my stay, I saw an eco style hot water facility is being installed and might come operational in couple of weeks or so. During nights it will be freezing cold and you have the coloniel style firewood place inside or bonfire outside to keep you warmth. It will be a different experience altogether. You'll jus love beong at close to the lap of nature. Without TV, you'll end up having lot of time speaking with family and friends, playing with kids, reading books. As you look up during nights, its an astronomical treat for your eyes with zillion of twinkling stars and their constellations provides you ample opportunities for star gazing. Its absolute thrill to watch the bisons in close as they come near to the property during nights for grazing the lushy meadows. We have been given with a powerful torch to watch them. You might need at least couple of days of stay to have a relaxed vacation. Activities you can do: Do nothing jus relax in the lap of nature, play cricket, badminton, volleyball, trek to nearby hills, terrain farms and lakes nearby. You could visit Kukkal lake, Poondi lake, mannavanur lake and sheep farm near by. Roads: Last couple of kilometers would be bumpy one and ensure you have a vehicle with good ground clearance. I felt it better now compared with first visit few years back. I met Mr Babu Cherian who owns this 25+ acre property as he was there with family members for Christmas. Just amazed to know how much effort it takes to maintain this property the way it's been all along for years. A must place to visit for everyone to enjoy the stay closeness to the nature, you'll jus love it.

Sadly I dint even make it to the property and I already know I don't want to ever visit or recommend this place by just interacting with the owner. We had made bookings a week in advance for a 3 night stay and Mr. Babu Cherain insisted on paying half the advance to confirm the booking which I did. He neither mailed me nor informed me about the cancelation policy nor is it mentioned on their page. Sadly, I trusted them too quickly and dint ask myself. Due to a sudden death in the family, we had to cancel our trip. When I asked him about the refund, he started quoting random rules of canceling 14 days in advance for a refund. I asked him to show me where this rule was written but he conveniently stopped answering my calls there after. It was a big loss to us and left us with such a bitter taste. Sadly, just for some money, they lost out on not just one set of guests but many more who I would've otherwise recommended.
