Casero is a wonderful place to stay at Kolakham. Kolakham is a remote spot in the lava in the state of West Bengal. However, is a spot close to Kanchanjunga. Casero provides a spot such that you can enjoy valley view right from the room itself. Rooms are creatively designed to give a good seat for sunrise over kanchanjunga. It has a beautiful garden as well that they have maintained. However, the place itself is very remote and dwe cannot expect much more than basic amenities which they are supplying well. Natives cook food and serve. Food have nice native taste and flavour. We must order breakfast, lunch, snaks and dinner before hand to enable them arrange accordingly. However there is nothing much to do in the evening. NB _ Road to Kolakham is under construction, only SUV can travel and not recommended for elderly people. Keep necessary medicines handy.

The homestay has one of the best locations in Kolakham but the place is badly managed and poorly maintained. The bedsheets are of poor quality (with stains) and beds are very hard to sleep on. Towels are not properly washed. They provide you only one towel and we had to request for one more as we were 3 guests. The bathroom is stinking and needs proper attention to make it functional. The wash basin tap water outlet flows on the floor of the bath room. The furniture include a small plastic table to keep few stuffs and two plastic chairs (and one was broken and I fell down as it cracked). No mirror in the room but one in the bathroom. The room is very small to allow you any movement. The carpet inside the room has come out and you have to be very careful not to cause any accident. You have to climb a non-step pathway from the main road to reach the property. The pathway to the room is also broken on the ground floor level and you have to be careful to avoid an accidental tripping. The property is a real challenge if you have older person with you. However, you can sit in the balcony facing the Kanchanjungha range and enjoy the tranquillity of the place. The road to Lava from Bagdogra is real bad once you cross Gorubathan with bumpy boulders on which you have to drive and the road from Lava to Kolakham (10km) is worse. To reach Kolakham from Bagdogra, you will require at least 5 hours and a very good vehicle. a small vehicle is a strictly "No". The food is just okay with standard egg curry in the lunch and Roti and chicken curry in the dinner and Puri bhaji or Alu paratha is the breakfast. Food cost is reasonable. Not worth. There are better homestays nearby to explore.

This is regarding the terrible vacation experience that I had which started with Casero Kolakham. I had advanced the entire amount to the owner in Mar-18. This vacation was with my brother's family. The following are the details of my experience: Despite advancing the entire amount in Mar-18, I was suddenly told to provide another INR 6000 with strange pretext of GST and rates changing etc. Anyway, I did that and had repeatedly asked for a receipt which I never got. He was supposed to have a pickup ready at Bagdogra. Even on the eve of the journey, I did not have any details. After repeated follow-ups I got a contact number on Whatsapp. That person in turn gave the number of another person, who in turn said that he was looking for an available driver. We managed one driver finally who said that he would pick us up. 2. On 20-Oct, when we arrived at Bagdogra, the driver said that he will not go till the hotel, but would drop us at Damdim. Another car came, we transferred our luggage and two families shifted to that car. This car also did not go the entire way, but dropped us a Lava Bazaar at 7:30 PM in the night, which was very cold. Another car came which finally took us to Casero Kolakham. On reaching there, we realized that he had let out the room which we had booked to Mr Bhattacharya (please refer to the review by bhattacharjeepar2017 in Tripadvisor). Both our families faced enormous issues with the mess this person had created. The mess for my brother's family and mine did not end here. The main reason is I had asked this person to help book the hotels at Rishop and Kalimpong. On reaching there, I understood that this person had transferred the money for hotel booking only about a week before my journey (although the money was advanced long back). As a result we did not get a single hotel stay in Rishop for 2 days. Instead it was one day each at a hotel in Rishap. At the end I would like to thank the following persons who were of immense help during this stay: 1. Hari Bahadhur - the person who along with his family actually looks after Casero Kolakham and tried his best to help is 2. Gangey Rai - he is the gentleman who helped to arrange the hotels and was very cooperative. To summarize: 1. Please be extremely careful if you are booking in Casero Kolakham as chances are that the same room would be rented to two different persons on the same day 2. You may not get any receipt (as it happened with me) for the money advanced. I also did not get any break-up of the amount for each hotel (in Rishop and Kalimpong) If you want to visit Kolakham, please get the contact numbers of the locals - they will never deceive you.

I happened to stay in this hotel with my family from 20th to 22nd October,2018. While the owner sits at Kolkata, a Nepali couple runs the show. They have lot of complaints against the owner. Rooms are shabby and the food quality bad. I had made initial payment in the month of June'2018 and was given to understand by the owner that my booking is confirmed. Accordingly , I went to Kolakham. However to my utmost surprise I was told over phone at around 8.30 in the night on 20th October, by the owner that I am to submit additional amount immediately to stay in the property. One can well imagine the difficulty in transferring payment in such remote place with little mobile connectivity. However, I still managed to transfer the amount demanded by the so called owner within a short time.My question is once I booked for the property, he accepted the initial payment and I was given to understand that required payment is made and never given indication to the fact that more payment was needed. In fact I was in complete dark about this balance payment story. Such unscrupulous attitude from a man who is in hospitality industry is deplorable. I happened to meet another group of tourist who also had bad experience with the said person. We are frequent travelers, but have never experienced such awkward situation. I would never like to stay in any property owned or managed by this unscrupulous person.

Simply a mind blowing experience we had over there. We booked well advanced to ensure it's availability and after attending we are really overwhelmed by the hospitality and services of Casero Kolakham. The food they served were too good and enough to lick our fingertips till the end. The view right from the balcony of Casero Kolakham mesmerized us and we were one of the lucky ones who got a chance to see the mighty Kanchenjungha even in the weather of monsoon. In overall it was a great experience to be in Casero Kolakham.
