On a friend's recommendation chose the Broadway for a 4 night stay. A classic hotel from another age it was the perfect spot for me, but admittedly it won't be right for everyone. The rooms clean and large, the staff helpful and friendly, the location cannot be better for exploration of the central district and old quarter. I also found the price incredibly reasonable compared to the 3&4 star hotels chosen by many foreigners. But you have to be prepared for what it is.. an aging property without many of the amenities or improvements that have come to be standard fare in hotels worldwide. This is a hotel trapped in time, where the written ledger looks unchanged for 50 years, and some of the room features likely as old. For adventurous travelers who want to experience a timeless piece of Kolkata I suggest first reading up on the Broadway and then if it seems like a good fit I would highly recommend. Safe, affordable and charming in its own way.

When you stay at the Broadway, be prepared to experience Kolkata from all angles! It is a very good location, set in the heart of the city in a city neighborhood. You might want to prepare a map or have one ready...our pre-paid taxi from the airport had a tough time finding the hotel after midnight. The rooms are simple but comfortable. If you want hot water, be sure you upgrade your room...the bucket showers are refreshing and fun in this older hotel. The rooms are well-kept. The staff is extremely attentive in a positive way; they made sure we had what we needed. Both Viv and Michael were helpful. One highlightand a surprisewas the great food at the restaurant. The beers were cold, nice selection of local food and very good service. Busy with locals, which is a good sign of a strong reputation. The hotel staff was very attentive. It took us a day to adjust to Kolkata...but totally worth it. Its helpful that ATMs are nearby and be ready to see the real-deal when you take some extra steps!

Hotel location is good - walk-able distance from Indian museums and litrally opposite to Metro station. Rooms are charming & classic. Restaurant & room service is very good. Hotel is not cheap; but it provides 24-hr check out facility.

This gem of a place in the heart of the city is a must visit for all those travellers who are looking to seek out the old drinking holes of this Raj era property. extremely reasonably priced drinks and food. The new management has given it a face lift and now you have air-conditioners keeping the place cool!! The food quality has improved and how and its an extremely pocket friendly place which is not easy to find this day and age. The day time crowd is that of local office goers and the evening brings in a mix of young or the regulars, travellers. The atmosphere is noisy and electric with all sorts of conversations taking place. A favourite and a hidden gem for the city people. dont expect 5 star quality but a service with a smile and friendliness. Frill free

This hotel is not the cheapest one, but it's location is very good - opposite the metro station Chandni Chowk (northern exit 6). We payed 1000 rupees for a room without a bathroom, but the room was clean and very big. The men at the reception desk are kind and helpful. There's liftman and you will get a newspaper every day.
