  • Excellent staff and good food; avoid room 2

The best things about this place aside from price and location, which are good, are the staff and the kitchen. Overall a reasonable place to stay. The verandah is good for a cup of tea and a view of the road. WiFi was ok. It is clean but rather shabby in places. Everything seems to work as long as you find out about the water heating system early on. Upstairs rooms are fine with showers and toilet en suite. However room 2 is noisy from the courtyard and kitchen which also attracts flies. Fortunately they could move me after the first few nights.

Absolutely loved the stay. This is not one of those hotels you fall in love with at the first glance, but their service will leave you in awe. The rooms are clean and give a grandma's place kind of a vibe. We had dinner at the place for 3 consecutive days and loved the food. Homely and comforting. Also try their Puri and Sabzi for breakfast, pretty good!

  • Slightly gloomy but friendly

Luxury this isnt, but its a reasonably priced place in a decent location with very attentive staff. I was staying in a ground floor room with no daylight, but a bathroom with hot water (once theyd told me how to turn it on) and reliable wi-fi. The staff will make trea and are very flexible about breakfast and meals. Although the rooms arent particularly pleasant, the verandah onto the street is a comfortable place to sit and pass the time.

We stayed at Blue chip guest house while attending a friends wedding in Kolkata as he stayed just down the road.Initially we found it to be expensive and old, but it was a perfect stay. The staff was very friendly and they cooked home food for young ones whatever we asked. You can reach anytime and they will open the door. I would definitely recommend this place to friends if they want to stay in and around Ballyganj area.

  • Choose rooms on the second floor. Room number 5 has a good view.

  • Ask for the room with the balcony.

  • rooms on second floor seem to be nicer with carpeting.

  • Any room is nice, but best not too close to the kitchen, as scents can be quite powerful. Windows on groundfloor faces the street, so can't open much, without compromising your privacy. Street is quiet though.
