A low budget hotel good for stay with family...food charges are expensive...management should take care of food rates and increase the item numbers of complimentary breakfast alongwith the quality...however, they have to take care of hotel bill which is not showing exact money paid by the customer at the time of check-out...!!!

Well, this ought to be reasonably acceptable hotel because it is listed on MMT. IF one expects to find three star facilities at a price that is lesser than a budget hotel then obviously one is living in a fool's paradise. So, obviously this hotel is not a great hotel; however if at all I have to, I would still prefer staying here for a short stay - typically a night stay on my way to catch flights from the Kolkata airport. I was satisfied that the rooms were clean - the bedsheet, pillow the hotel corridors etc. The bathroom too was reasonably clean. The rooms are small - yes, but that is not what I was looking for. The AC made noise - had to accept it. So, all in all a good hotel for transit stay.

Good. Reasonably o.k. and surely value for money. Nicely located on the main road and very near to Airport in Kolkata where traffic can always play tricks with the commuters flying in and out of the city.

Nice staff with good service. Place as described in the internet. Deepak has been very promising when it came to customer service. Will definitely consider this for my short trips as long as they continue this kind of service.

Book this cheap hotel if you love bed bugs & abusive rude staff!! "I'll call security and throw you out of my property if you provide any negative feedback about my hotel? One bad review won't matter" This was the threat issued to me at reception of this hotel when I objected to poor quality of the room being offered! I usually don't write reviews but this hotel forced me to share my story. This is the horror trail in detail... "Why have you come early at 10AM as your booking is for 12PM Check-In?" This was the opening comment from the staff when I arrived at Hotel Eastern Plaza Kolkata reception. There was no AC working when outside temperature was hot and don't go by hotel provided pictures, only some sad chairs are kept for guests at reception & a lousy shabby couch. Well, I showed them my booking voucher booked from Y*tr*. They looked at it, asked me to wait. So I sat down on one of the chairs. One of them remarked sarcastically, "You're single!!". Is it an issue if I am travelling solo? Then they said I will have to wait till 12. I said okay but can you switch on the AC. One of them said it is not functional. Fine! I saw some families who also had booked for 12PM check-in getting rooms. At least five rooms were given out as early check-in without questioning. Probably they only want family or couple guests not singles! Not uncommon type of discrimination in India though! I objected why I am being asked to wait while others are getting check-in. They said okay fine show the voucher again! I said I already showed it so can they not check their own records. They said their Internet is not working so can't check online in their system. If this is the situation at reception, only time will tell about the WiFi in rooms! Finally, after some time, they allowed me to check-in. I was taken to a dingy store room type of place hardly 7-8 sq ft. having dirty linen, shabby damp walls, stinking of rats, can't describe the feeling. I complained about it & asked for a proper room. They said hotel is sold out so no choice. I warned I'll complain to Y*tr* so they said I'll need to wait till 12 so came down to reception. I called up Y*tr* at their Call center, kept explaining situation for 39 min. Their number is not toll-free. The agent said no other hotels are available in Kolkata as a replacement & this booking is non-refundable. I escalated to supervisor who kept speaking to hotel simultaneusly in between to sort out. The hotel straightaway denied the complaints saying I'm lying. I have been booking hotels for past 6-7 yrs. and every year I stay in almost 100 hotels but this is the first time I was in such situation as never seen such bad hotel & never wrote reviews! Now it was a court case kind of situation with me as petitioner, hotel as respondant and Yatra staff being the partial judge only trusting hotel not customer. Everyone asking & offering proofs. Now when I asked I to be allowed to take pictures of offered room to share with Y*tr*, the hotel denied me entry even though they had taken my ID, made entry in books they did not allow me in before 12. Repeated calls with Y*tr*, almost 7 calls to their supervisor spread over 53 minutes call time till 12pm, it is not free especially in roaming! Check my phone logs if need proof. I was waiting in reception & it only turned uglier hereon. I moved in to cafe for a few mins, only to find rubbish stinking leftovers. I felt happy that I didn't book breakfast so won't have to bear this torture of cafeteria at least. One customer was complaining at check-out about being over-charged. I asked him to share online feedback on Tripadvisor so that others can know about hotel better. The staff started hurling abuses shouting at me. Mr. Raj was so rude that he just forgot that guests like me are paying for their salaries! He said, "You are sitting in my property & cannot speak bad about it. You get only this much in the money you paid. If you complain I'll ask security to throw you out of the hotel! 'Na jaane kahan kahan se aa jaate hain, @%#^$! We won't be affected by one bad review of yours, we have sufficient prepared responses to all online complaints to prove you're wrong on the online media. We already got all the money & will not refund, you can do nothing about it! You may leave!" Wow, Mr. Raj, first of all this is not your property & am sure the hotel owner is a nice person just that he blindly trusts his employees. I pity the hotel owners Rupashi Bangla who are unaware of ground realities here. I just came out, waited in the sun with my luggage, talking to Y*tr* support. They said the hotel is not refunding money so they can't help. After some persuassion, they obliged but to my surprise, hotel asked them that I should write an apoogy letter on my ID if I need partial refund, complete refund not possible. Amazing, you want me to apologize for telling the truth! At around 12.30, the security guy came outside & requested me to take another room. Well, the security staff was the only good part as they were polite & nice! People at junior levels are normally humble, it is usually the mid-management staff who become arrogant & rude. I was told now that the earlier room was sold so they are giving me another one. Mr. Raj said that they would offer it as a favor as I have given in to apologize to them. Well, I never apologized Mr. Raj because I did nothing wrong, you can assume whatever you feel like. Y*tr* was just a mute spectator who only offered me empty apologies as they were not able to help at all because hotel had got money already not ready to refund. They did not take any action against hotel, so sad their own brand image is getting affected. One gentle nice staff Pritam took me to this room given as alternate. It was not much different than earlier one but still manageable. Actually, by that time I was thirsty, tired, waiting 2 hrs. in the sun, without being offered even a glass of water by the hotel! And Pritam's nice words made some difference. I didn't have patience to struggle anymore so just accepted. There was no water bottle in room, as they don't provide it complimentary, no WiFi password was given to me & I just didn't want to ask anything from abusive Mr. Raj who was feeling on the top of the world having defeated me in the case finally. Well, Mr. Raj, you don't know the power of online reviews. Your hotel will loose guests if you continue doing this to them! Horror of staying here begins. I clicked pictures of the room they gave as replacement, they didn't allow me to click for the earlier one they gave which was worse. At night, bed bugs came out on the bedsheet, bit me all over. I fell sick next day, didn't go outside all day. Check hotel camera recordings as proof to support all of above. I was also afraid if out of rage, the hotel staff harms me or takes away my luggage. I can't tell you how I stayed in such hostile environment seeing these people laughing at me as if they won a battle. I lost courage & energy to search for another hotel. Just waited for agony to get over soon. I clicked the bed bugs video the next night at 1am, shared online, search for "Hotel Eastern Plaza Kolkata, expect Bed Bugs to bite you". There are 2 parts. It was supposed to be a short vacation to the City of Joy which was ruined by an ugly hotel & uglier staff there. If you love bed bugs to suck your blood just like hotel sucked my money & if you want to be abused by reception staff because you paid non-refundable budget fare, then please go ahead & book Eastern Plaza Hotel, Kolkata.
