  • Every time we prefer Hotel Lytton

    We have visited Kolkata 6 times. Every time we prefer Hotel Lytton. This time from March 17 and 8 nights. We have extensive experience with hotels in India. Has for ten years been on the month-long tours. Hotel Lytton is one of the best three stars. We have often experienced guests behave completely unreasonable and require 5 star service. I doubt that the disgruntled guests have better relationships at home. We do not like the lord and slave relationship for the staff. With mutual respect everything goes much better. If you want more, you have to pay. We have tried 4 and 5 star hotels. Here you are constantly bothered by the staff, which is quite unnatural in their appearance. We cannot be at peace for their so-called service. We prefer the natural kindness where help is present when only we ask for them. There have been small problems Hotel Lytton. But each time they are solved in the best way. All from the cleaning staff to the manager will help find a good solution. If you come with an open mind, you'll always find help and benevolence. Last visit we had some problems with wi-fi in the room. So we bought for little money an Indian SIM card. Now we also have wi-fi in the room next time. And we can now use our mobile phone cheap in India.

    The hotel is very well positioned near the New Market and shops on Chowringee Road. This is a big plus. The breakfast is fine (good choice and quality) and the restaurant where you can eat at any time, is very good as well, even though the prices are quite high. Another positive point is the efficient laundry system. What I did not like were the rooms. Old and quite dirty. I had somebody's hair in my bed at my first entry into the room. Let's me more clear :)....old is acceptable but a dirty bed is not! In addition, the air conditioning was not working. So let's say that next time in Calcutta I would most probably look for another option.

    Hotel looks nice and good from the outside. Rooms are not very clean and the service of staff are not professional which is not expected. No WiFi for foreigners in the rooms, only WiFi in the lobby with less speed. whatever its in a good location. Adjacent to National Museum & New Market

    Visited with G adventures tour No problems with hotel . Room was large Good shower and all very clean The location perfect for our trip easy access to shops and cafes Didn't eat food in hotel bar not very interesting either.

    I have visited the hotel on September 2016. The location of the hotel is very good. It's very close to new market and national museum. The hotel is old, rooms are spacious but dark. Food was ok. It's not very much clean one. Staff are friendly but sometimes extra payment is required to get service.
