What's Good: the location
What needs to improve : no windows in rooms, slow service, smelly carpets, inefficiency and many other things
Reason For Rating : The Astor is far too expensive for the service it provides. Most rooms - certainly the ones I and my friends had - have no windows. They are like prison cells. The carpets are musty. The staff are well intentioned but slow and inefficient. No one respects Do Not Disturb signs. Time they got professional and stopped overcharging for totally mediocre services. The only thing going for it is its location.

This beautiful hotel was originally a horse stable built in 1915, renovated into a classic hotel. It is a fabulous reminder of the history of the city. The rooms are lovely, comfortable and well laid out. The staff are helpful, professional and caring. The restaurant is comfortable. The included breakfast is exceptional. The terrace lounge reminds you of a European experience. The price is reasonable. The location is perfect.
Good Stay in Challenging Times

We stayed at this hotel for two nights during the Covid-19 crisis on our way home to Canada. It was a bit weird because we were pretty much the only customers during our time there. But the staff were great, our room was comfortable and the food and drinks delicious. In fact we had one lunch at the hotel restaurant which was one of the best we had while in India for two and a half months. Its a great place to stay in a lovely part of town We hope they can weather the Covid storm and get back to more normal operations.
Good hotel and location

We stayed here twice in February . This is a heritage property with contemporary style rooms . They are bit masculine and dark in style but perfectly good with good shower rooms . The dining room is a bit dark and gloomy for breakfast . The open air deck/bar is however fantastic with a lot of local young customers do it feels quite vibey . The young waiter, Ayan is a very personable young man and made our evening very enjoyable . The club had a private salsa party that seemed random for us Brits . But the friendly dancers invited us in and some of them were fantastic movers . All in all a great value for money stay
Best wedding reception venue in Kolkata

I had my wedding reception at the Astor kolkata and I must say that this is one of the best wedding or wedding reception venue in Kolkata compared to food and hospitality. The food served to guest are outstanding and have a wide variety of cuisine. Chakori kebab is one of the delicious staters of Astor and must be included. Special mention and credit to be given to Mr Subhayu Sengupta who is the overall manager at the Astor. He has been very informative, courteous and helpful throughout the journey. He is an asset to this hotel. The lawn and the banquet hall itself is well maintained. Overall I am thankful to have selected my wedding reception at the Astor.
Decent stay, but not as expected

Good - Very good location - Great hospitality, staff are very polite and helpful. - Breakfast was very good. Lot of options and tasty as well. - Rooms were spacious. Bad - The hotel is a little dingy. I understand the vintage concept, but there was absolutely no natural lighting. It's like a cave. - Even in the room, there was no natural light. Window was at the back of the bed which got almost covered. - The exhaust in the bathroom was broken. So the air was trapped and it was really really smelly. What they had done was that they had installed a perfume dispenser to keep the smell down.
Our room (115) was above the outdoor bar/restaurant, but it was pretty quiet while we were there.
