The architecture and ambience is brilliant, a fantastic retreat, food is decent and the persons attending at the restaurant and buffets endeavour much within their limited skills to cater to the needs of the guests, the evening get together and arati rituals are quite an attraction, the rooms are clean and supplied with decent toiletries, Mr Subhrangshu Mitra extends a much needed personal attention, the staffs are otherwise decent and well trained but for occasional coordination failure, the amateurish approach of few staffs are vivid, Mr Gaurav Majhi who happens to be the front man of the staff displayed extremely unprofessional behaviour at different levels, we were allotted a room by him with holes on the door and other issues adding to it, on requesting him to change the same he acted evasive and steadily declined to act in a manner that is expected from the hospitality service of a premium range, in the evening the situation was salvaged by much needed intervention of Mr Subhrangshu who promptly acted to give us a room where we were comfortable. Mr Gaurab further came about with discrepancies in the bill during checkout. I bought meals for my chauffeur at Rs 350/- per meal where he was barely offered rice/chapati, daal and two pieces of chicken. However the stay was a feel good especially the early mornings and evenings are a take back of the trip, if the shortcomings as stated above are taken care of the property retains brilliant possibilities.

The property is away from the Hustle and bustle of Kolkata and is a good weekend Getaway , rooms are clean and very spacious however the food options limited and the road to this resort is not good as it is very bumpy, but overall I would recommend this property for the weekend Getaway

We come to The Rajbari at least twice a year, its a wonderful escape from the city madness, such a peaceful and charming place. It feels like travelling back in time to the era of the Zamindars, with its colonial decadent architecture and the warm welcome of the hosts who take care of all the small details for making guests feel like home.

Three families view impromptu decision decided to drive some 30 Km way from Kolkata winding through Bazar crowd and traffic to spend one night at this Rajbari Bawali Heritage resort whose location is tucked away amongst greenery. Having arrived the "Rajbari" we were greeted with traditional Kumkum application and conch blowing by young ladies in white sarees with red border. Having arrived the destination the "concierge" service took our cars away and parked them about 100 metres away and the keys were kept with the security. At the reception counter (a make shift arrangement of table and chair manned by a lady from Bhutan) welcomed us and offered us a welcome drink. Subsequently we were escorted to our rooms a short distance away weaving through greenery and skirting water body. There were Geese loitering about and the atmosphere was serene. We dumped our baggage and proceeded to the area where lunch would be served. There was a little surprise view the lunch was Buffet spread at Rs 1200/- per head with a large variety of juices, veg and non veg dishes together with cereals of one's choice. As senior citizen suddenly let loose on the Buffet spread, we did make good and our tummies were full. However it would have been appropriate if the management (Ms M Mazumdar (Resident Director aptly intimated)) had put a briefer spread for senior citizen and the youth could have relished the large variety on display. We then took a brief siesta and in the evening after consuming tea / coffee (sachets of milk sugar tea and coffee as also water boiler were there in each room). Regrettably there was neither TV nor small Fridge (which could have housed our beer) available. Within the confines of the cupboard there was a small safe available. The bed posts reminded us of times past when mosquito nets were in fashion. The rooms were large with Queen sized beds and soft pillows. The bathroom was large however the water geyser was located outside the wall of bathroom but the switch was near the entrance to bathroom door and had to be located. Hot water was available. Sufficient toiletries were displayed for one's use. The three families decided to take a walk around the premises and located a 50 metre swimming pool with facilities to have a pool side party and reclining chairs. In thee evening the "Thakur Dalan" which happens to be the main stairs leading to rooms of yester years and a concrete floor where cultural dances were performed by local artistes. While the performances were on display a bonfire was lit and guests enjoyed the atmosphere, a tipple (bar set up close by) and the lighting added to the reminder of beauty and heritage that slipped by us. Since we were unable to take another round of the buffet spread we requested the management to provide us with 3 dishes of sufficient quantity and we enjoyed the same over our drinks and another bonfire lit for us near the Dining area. To our pleasant surprise we had a live band roll out old popular numbers and truly we enjoyed every moment of our stay The night sleep was very peaceful and we had our morning cup of tea/ coffee and readied ourselves for Buffet Breakfast. Wow the spread was everything that one could think of. From juices, to cereals to eggs etcetra, however, there were no sausages or bacon to top the menu. Anyway we did enjoy the spread and ate to our hearts content. Few hours later found us packing for our return journey to Kolkata, winding our way through bazar crowd and traffic.

Staying for 2 nights at this hotel was truly a wonderful experience. Located just over an hour's drive from Kolkata it provides an oasis away from the hustle and bustle of India. The building and grounds are being lovingly and well restored by the owner although this is work in progress. We enjoyed the ambience, the large bedroom with four poster, the personal and enthusiastic service, exploring the village on our own and had wonderful massages. This hotel is not however for anyone who wants a well managed, clinically modern hotel with all facilities to hand.
