Basically it's an apartment converted into a hotel rooms. They have 3 rooms in total with common living room and dinning are for all where breakfast is being served. All room are big enough for 3-4 people, 2 rooms have king size bed and one with 2 full size beds. Clean rooms and simple home cooked breakfast. The room is bigger then your average hotel room with balcony overlook the road. The lake is walkable distance from the hotel it's good place for a early morning or evening walk. Plenty of Resturant's in the area with different cuisines to choose from. Walkable distance from the market. Overall worth the money if you not looking for fancy hotel and want your own privacy.

I am glad I chose Red Carpet keyatala guest house for stay. I had a very warm & comfortable stay here. The lady managed & explains & helps & makes one feel so comfortable since I was alone she gave me the homely confidence & instructed the care taker so well. I needed guidance to spend a day in kol after my work & she guided so right. Lakshmi is a blessing for a lone traveller staying in Kolkatta. And after work we need home food & home feeling. Which red carpet offers best. I will again go & stay here. Thanks a lot to Lakshmi mam

Rooms very small. Carpets very unclean. For instance, the towels they give you are also used as bath mats. Be very careful: they will lure you to extend your stay by reducing the `official' room rate, and then they will increase it just before your departure without any explanations. Completely over-priced. BEWARE of the Lady in charge: she sweetly engaged my elderly mother and then myself into conversation, tried to gain our confidence. She suggested (seriously) that my mother makes a will leaving her our property, and then she tried to tell my mother negative things about all her visitors, friends and relatives. She even went as far as suggesting that a very helpful acquaintance was trying to dupe her to take her property and might even kill her. She even invented that he had said bad things about her and me to her. So be very very careful. The harsh way she treated my mother at the end (I do not wish t go into details) is to be seen to be believed. When I confronted her with all this, she lied and denied having ever said those things to us. Then she realised that this was it, she had gone too far with her lies and behaviour and might lose her job, and she suddenly became very sweet again and tried to beg forgiveness. One of the two service hands does things reluctantly. The other one tries to ask personal questions and has to be checked. Apart from Wifi, all the amenities available even in the most basic of guesthouses are absent. They are even unable to book you taxis to go out. We were forced to stay here as this is the only guesthouse in a decent location we found in Calcutta which allows mosquito nets (believe me, even when they say some place, even with many stars, is mosquito free, it is not) and which is reachable by elevator (my mother can no longer walk up stairs).

Very sad state of affairs and no amenities at all this hotel is the worst you can stay in Kolkata. No provision for food also. Single attendant for the whole hotel and no is his preferred word. I recommend not to stay in the property as it is highly overpriced.

The place is centrally located and does let one roam the city restaurants and markets. The employee who prepares the breakfast is not the best. He had lots of time in his hand. He would help as needed but that did not take much of his time. Then he would start chats with the guests. I was there with my in-laws and he just got them into a constant chat mode. My in-laws being polite engaged him and found him a fun distraction. I has some emergency work tasking, and I found his hanging around and talking away a major distraction. Then on a followup trip he decided to turn into a cassanova, and started to flirt with female members. I guess fault lies on both sides but this was a constant distraction. An employee should be professional and work oriented not develop relationships with the guests, else this is not really a family place. I have developed a bad taste for this place and would not encourage anybody to stay here till they give proper training to their employees.
