Munroe island is a picturesque, tranquil haven. A place to relax and take in the slow paced way of village life. Meenu and Rinjeeths homestay, of 2 small cottages, is completely tucked away on the back canals. Room has a fan and mosquito net. A sure way to experience simple village life, falling asleep and waking up to the sounds of nature. The room is basic but comfortable and the family are just too lovely for words. They are so friendly, helpful and have a good balance of giving you your space or chatting and answering any questions. Meals are authentic, basic keralan food. Great street stalls nearby sell fresh fruit and a few basic necessities. Definitely recommend experiencing this beautiful village and family. Canal tours are also available.

We arrived at Munroe days homestay to be greeted by the beautiful Meenu, shortly followed by her lovely son Arron! We were immediately offered cold drinks and fruit, which we enjoyed while sitting on the porch area which overlooks a very peaceful narrow canal. The rooms which had en-suite bathrooms were spotless and very comfortable for our 1 night stay. We enjoyed a lovely boat trip with Ratheesh in the late afternoon/early evening but before we went Meenu made us chai and fried bananas- delicious! Our evening meal was prepared by Meenu and her mother-in-law and consisted of freshwater fish and prawns, rice, vegetable curry, yam and chappati - once again it was delicious. Unfortunately we had to leave this perfect little homestay very early the next morning due to strike action. Thank you to Meenu and Ratheesh for making our short stay so enjoyable and relaxing despite the best efforts of our anxious taxi driver to worry us all about the strike!

After the busyness of several Indian cities Munroe Days was perfect. The two cottages were clean, tidy and very comfortable. The location was ideal, tucked well away from a quiet road in a small village setting next to a small canal. Quiet, calm and beautiful. We borrowed the bikes to wander around and used the small ferries to explore a little further. All our meals were cooked by Meenu and were delicious - the island does not have touristy multi cuisine restaurants (a bonus we thought!) The highlight was a dawn ride along the canals with Renjith. The bird life is truly incredible. We watched the first sunrise of 2019 from the canoe. Perfect. Renjith and Meenu are lovely hosts, we really enjoyed speaking to them and meeting their young son. I would highly recommend Munroe Days.

Renjith and Meenu's homestay stole my heart. It is without doubt the most relaxing homestay I have ever stayed in and the surroundings and the island in general are beautiful. If you're visiting Kerala this place is a must, and so much better than the crowded houseboats elsewhere in the backwaters. The room is simple but spotless and very comfortable. WiFi is strong. The porch is a dream - the perfect place to sit with a book while watching village life go by via the canal outside. Renjith's canoe trip is lovely and you get a real sense of island life. He's really knowledgeable about the area and very easy to talk to. Finally, Meenu is probably one of the nicest people I have met in a long time. Nothing was too much trouble and her food was fantastic. I would recommend this place to everyone.

We had three nights with this lovely family, Renjith and Meenu, their young son and Renjiths mum. All our meals were eaten at the home stay, Meenu is an excellent cook and it was some of the best food we had on our trip. The brick chalet and bathroom were spotlessly clean and the bed was comfortable. The room has a fan and a mosquito net is provided. We spent our time going for walks around the village and sitting on our patio by the waterside watching the world go by. The bird life is amazing. Bikes are available if you wish to use them. We also had an evening canoe ride with Renjith which took us around the narrow backwaters and to Ashtamundi lake and Renjith was a mine of information. Munro island is as yet relatively undiscovered, totally unspoilt and there is very little to do other than relax, but this was the appeal for us.The area is beautiful with narrow waterways and wider more open backwaters. Everyone we met wanted to say hello and shake hands, they were so friendly and welcoming. We were lucky enough to be there for the festival of Shiva and the villagers welcomed us to their celebrations, making sure that we got a good spot for watching and taking pictures. If you like 5 star luxury then Munroe Days is probably not the place for you. However if you wish to experience real Indian life with a charming hospitable lovely family you will not find better than Munroe Days
