We had a very strange experience here. To begin with, this concept hotel is very well known and is fashioned as a museum of objects and memorabilia evoking life in the agraharam that used to exist there. The rooms and common areas are filled with pretty cool furniture, paintings, sculptures and other random bric-a-brac, but maintaining such a property is obviously really expensive and the seams are certainly showing. Where the experience turned really strange was with the service. The restaurant and housekeeping staff was so completely inept, and filled with so many newbies, that we honestly wondered if the hotel had just faced a strike the previous day and was forced to draft in a bunch of locals at short notice. Where to begin: food, water, beer, bottle openers, cutlery, menus, everything took ages to arrive and only upon frequent badgering; several guests gave up and stationed themselves outside the kitchen to make things move along a bit quicker; towels didn't show up until 8 hours after checking in and the housekeeping staff switched off its "24/7" phone line at some point in the early morning. I hope this isn't a typical experience. Obviously many people have had wonderful visits here and the hotel is based on a pretty cool concept. Parking available and pretty good location from which to visit the big Chola temples.

This has to rank as one of our most unique stays we have had our travels in India. As other reviewers have noticed, an old village has been converted into a hotel with lots of unique features including the swimming pool, which looks like a temple pool. The place has a lot of history and character and a lovely feel to it. Rooms are designed like (or actually are) old village houses with veranda, but facilities are pretty basic!! I did find a small spider in the room and killed it!! Guess that's what you get when you stay in a village house. In addition, the A/C started making loud noises around 11.30 pm in the night - since it was December, we were able to switch it off and survive with the fan!! The restaurant is nice, and we enjoyed the lunch!! But when we wanted to order for dinner from A la Carte, the staff said nothing is available except for what they have laid out for the dinner buffet!! That was a big disappointment and they wouldn't budge!! Then again in the morning, the restaurant staff were adamant that our package didn't include breakfast - despite our booking confirmation clearly saying that what we paid also includes breakfast!! This meant we also had a 15 - 20 mins delay during check out as this needed to be cleared!! There is wi-fi only in the lobby, while we were ok with this, some others might find this really a problem. If the hotel can improve on these things and their overall service quality, they have the potential to be a really top notch hotel.

This is a really gorgeous property and very clever concept. Essentially, they have taken over and restored a part of an old village. It's an interesting warren of buildings and packed full of antiques. There's also an enclosure with deer, plenty of bird life, and lots of nice places to sit. Our room was a vast suite with very high ceilings in what I assume is a new building but still has a real heritage feel to it. No complaints about the accommodation. The breakfast was very decent but...here's the caveat. The service when it got busy was appalling. One day when they were only a fraction full they had a buffet, but the final two days we stayed there they had no buffet despite being packed full. People were waiting an hour just to get tea or coffee. It was a shambles. The next day was a bit better but still chaotic. The front desk service also seemed quite chaotic. And the only wifi available was in the lobby which was inconvenient for those who didn't have mobile data. But these niggles aside, it is a very classy hotel with a really clever concept. Oh...and there's a very nice swimming pool designed to look like a temple pool. If you don't have transport then you'll be at the mercy of the hotel restaurant with the closest food options in Kumbakonam.

Service - Pathetic, most of the staff understands only the local language. So it was very difficult to communicate even simple things. Restaurant - Quality of food is poor and the service is pathetically late. The resort if good only for ambiance and the rooms were pretty good. Nothing else is good here. Chose to stay here as we did not find anything exotic in Kumbukonam.

We chose this place for a different holidaying experience. The property is unique on it's own with intact setup of the Agraharam (google for better understanding). The vast collection of antiques is definitely an exciting thing for all walks of life. The rooms are of different setup and dimensions check with the reservation team and tell them your needs and get the best rooms as the website doesn't show the proper categories of rooms and facilities , the management "must" i repeat "must" work on getting these details online. The staffs are friendly and courteous, but when it comes to service its a let down especially room service and restaurant service. The excuse i get is their rooms are fully booked and lots of guest to handle, which is not acceptable when the booking are done in advance why the management didn't forsee the demand in advance and handle the service properly? The famous chef venkatesh bhat was there on holiday i could see how frustrated at your restaurant service and the food at least for chef sake you could have built your reputation by managing well. Please take your guest review seriously and bring the change at the earliest(i see common complaint for the last 10 months no changes!!) before further service damage is done.
