If you are heading to Gurudongmar, Lachen is best place to stay overnight and start onwards journey next day early morning. Apple Orchard is the best available option in Lachen. It is really overpriced, but yes it is still worth it. Pros - Clean washrooms, bed linen, nice view from the rooms, good food, breakfast parcel Cons - It is uphill walking, cars have to be parked 100 mtrs away, overpriced

Lachen is not again a place where I would a 5 star resort. However, Apple Orchard benchmarks itself to Yarlam Lachung (a gem of a property in an equally difficult location). Pricing wise too, it is on the higher side. Given that, the expectations are obviously high. However, the reality is that the rooms are strictly so-so and nowhere as compared to Yarlam or any 3 star property. The property itself is located uphill and quite a climb especially for elders and toddlers - not a bad thing by itself. The problem that bothered me most is the service attitude - there is just a few staff who do everything in the property from housekeeping to waiting at the tables. The attitude of the staff is absolutely rubbish and they just want to get done with. That shows in the food - while the dinner was ok, the lunch was horrible. It seemed as if they didn't want to serve you any food - this after only selling All Meals Inclusive package. The manager is only interested in taking more money from your wallet. I would rather recommend staying in any other clean budget hotel in Lachen and use the money for some other luxuries (because anyways you won't get any in apple Orchard).

the manager is very humble and helpful ...cause its always the host one remembers equally as the property..we were welcomed with cherry brandy as welcome drink and we thought thats a perfect start...rooms were good and with amenities like heaters , tea makers etc ..staff was good and food was very good..specially the traditional sikkimi dinner we had....we stayed for 2 nights and had all meals here ..lachen is a amll town with nothing much to do except for excursions to nearby valleys and guru dongmar lake...so whenever we were at the property we tried to enjoy and relax the maximum due to its beautiful setting, fablous views and lovely trees and flowers around ..one flip side however..in the night one can have sleep problems due to lack of oygen in air and high altitude

We fell in love with the cosy rooms. Our car broke down at Ringa Ringa enroute from Gangtok and we eventually reached the hotel around 8 pm. The manager had gone out of his way to make the rest of our stay comfortable. The restaurant is also cosy with probably about 30 seats. The food is simple but yummy.
