This a good clean hotel with friendly staff and a rooftop restaurant. It also has a lift but the staff carry the luggage anyway. It is a short walk away from the beach where you can see fishing boats returning and watch the 8am fish auction. There are one or two small shops and street vendors keen to show you their rock carvings. The Tiger Cave is nearby; I believe it was created about 10 years ago after the Tsunami destroyed a previous monument. We had in the restaurant several times and found the food good. Breakfast consisted of omelettle, toast and jam, though other things are probably available. If you want a car or tour, ask for Mathi from MJ Tours.

The manager of the hotel Mathivanan (we called him Mothi) and his team were absolutely fantastic! It felt like we are the part of their family. And we just came home, where everyone is happy to see us and take care of us. The food on the third floor at the restaurant was delicious. We had breakfast there (banana crepes were the yummiest we've ever had in India), and dinner (freshly caught fish, what can be better, right?) Everything was fresh and tasty. Thanks to the new chef! One epic episode...Even though it was a monsoon season and was drizzling at 5am of one morning, we decided to go and watch the sunrise at the seashore. When we reached the sea, it suddenly started showering and guess what? Mothi was standing there with his umbrella! The security guard who saw us living the hotel called him, and in 5 min Mothi was there for us! At 5am in the morning! He led us to the ancient temple through the tons of water and flooded roads, and rescued us to the hotel, calling for tuk-tuk. Moses and Noa in one person:) It was our first trip to India. And our first hotel in India we stayed. After visiting 7 other hotels during our trip, I can say the Varuna inn customer service and the food were the best of all. Thank you, guys, for your wonderful job!
