We enjoyed our one-night's stay in this large home which is the seat of a royal family which once owned most of the land in the district. This homestay gave us the opportunity to experience life in a well-to-do Hindu household and we were able to enjoy an authentic experience. The food was strictly vegetarian. It was simple, but excellent and of top quality. Our hosts were friendly and very helpful. They were proud of their household and it was important to them that we enjoyed our stay. In the afternoon,we were taken on visits to the temple owned by the family and to the nearby river where people were bathing in readiness for a religious celebration. We were fortunate to be staying on a festival weekend and attended a tribal concert in the evening. Early the next morning, we went on a walk through the forest and down to the river where we caught a ferry to the other side of the river. The ferry consisted of a large canoe-like boat operated by one man with a punt. We enjoyed our stay very much.
