Rooms are shabby and not at all maintained well. even though the location is excellent. The only saving grace was that we got running hot water. Otherwise the whole experience was mediocre. Not worth the money.
Bad accommodation, but good food

This is an old property and renovation is going. When we checked in , we were the only people staying here , inspire of being weekend. We had booked thru MMT and found that the rooms were in very bad condition and lot of renovation was going on. Hot water in the bathroom is provided only in the morning. We had to wait for 10 minutes before the front desk staff came for check in. Overall an average property . However the food served in the restaurant was good.
Tasty Food. Generous Portions. Affordable Rates.

We were three ladies in various age brackets. We were in Mandu staying with the Madhya Pradesh Tourism guys and wanted to celebrate. We asked the driver if he could recommend a nice place to have lunch. He recommended Hotel Rupmati. It was drizzling. We were pretty late and there were no other guests. The Order was taken by an inexperienced guy but his friend came right over and made it easy for all of us. We opted for Chinese. Great teamwork. I appreciate this. Food took a while to come but interestingly all the proteins arrived first, the carbs ( rice/noodles) etc., came later. One waiter told us that they will serve the dishes as and when the Chef finishes cooking...so we will get hot off the wok food! We were so hungry we demolished the Chilli chicken without a word...and then dived right into the other chicken dishes. So finally when the rice dishes arrived we were too full to do justice to it. EXTREMELY GENEROUS portions. We struggled to finish even half-plates! Very, very affordable rates. Stupendous portion size. Polite behavior...what's not to like. Maybe if the items arrived together? If Swiggy delivered I would have ordered ALL my meals from here. Good work Hotel Rupmati. Keep it up. Recommended? Definitely (though I had only one meal here) Nice grounds too with free parking.
Wonderful food, less wonderful lodging

We heard, that ownership and management of the Hotel had changed just a few months ago and we can confirm that the new manager did his best to satisfy our needs. We spent two nights and had to leave as early as 6 a.m. in the morning of the second day. Much to our satisfaction management offered to serve a full breakfast as early as 5.30 a.m. - a service Impossible to get in many Indian Hotels! Accordingly, we appreciated that extra effort very much. The rooms were clean and the beds plesant, unfortunately the bathrooms were terribly outworn. Also some furniture in the room and the doors need replacement. So there is much to do for the new management. We had dinner twice in the garden and were very pleased with the performance of the kitchen who served us truly excellent dishes. That alone would be worthwhile to opt for the Rupmati Hotel, but also the location wich is remote from street and other noises make that Hotel probably the best choise in Mandu.

As a U.K. backpacker with plenty of experience of Indian hotels this one is terrible. Very expensive and awful accommodation. Stayed in two different rooms. The rooms stink of chemicals/bleach. They appear not to have been refurbished in 30 years. Very little on the menu is actually available. The staff do their best but seem poorly trained. The gardens (which could be lovely) are a building site. Below the terrace with the beautiful view is the usual pile of rubbish which nobody cleans away. At the prices charged it shouldnt be like this.
If travelling independently train to Indore and bus from there via Dar. Two to three direct buses back from Mandu to Indore daily 3 hours.

The rooms with a great view are housed in a dingy building with a strange cave like corridor .
