A quaint no frills hotel
by ANNESHAB5 on
We visited McLeodganj in May 2018. Unfortunately, upon arrival we came to know that the hotel we booked was closed down. At the last minute, we were recommended this hotel by our driver. We were initially sceptical by the name lodge wondering whether it would have the facilities of a hotel but we had a look and decided to go for it. We booked the family room for 4 adults at Rs 5000 plus taxes per night. Location: It is a few minutes walk from the main market area. The walk is a little steep but definitely commutable. Since its a little away from the main market, you get to experience the seclusion and feeling of being one with nature. If the weather is good, you can even glimpse the snow clad mountains especially early in the morning. Hotel and its rooms: The exterior of the hotel is very pretty and quaint. It does not lure you with neon lights and advertisements about its Wi-Fi speed unlike most other hotels in Mcleodganj. It looks like a very big old fashioned cottage with a mini garden in front. There are some tables and chairs put up in the garden wherein some guests were seen enjoying their breakfast. The family room we booked was at the end of the first floor overlooking the gardens and also provided a view of the mountains along with a view of the incoming road. This room actually comprised of a bathroom and two huge rooms with two double beds, two sofas, a table, a dressing table, a cupboard, a side table next to each bed along with a lamp and a tv. The rooms were spotlessly clean, the beds were comfortable and the tv had most of the channels generally watched by Hindi as well as English speaking audiences. Service: The service is very prompt. The room service was quick and any additional items required was provided promptly. The food was delicious. I particularly liked their breakfast menu and the best part is they even serve breakfast items for dinner. Every morning we left for sight seeing and came back to a cleaned and tidied up room with fresh towels. This hotel does not have Wi-Fi facilities and still I do not view this as a negative since most hotels that claim to have Wi-Fi provide it at a very slow speed which anyways renders it useless. The hotel staff is courteous and polite. Especially the hotel manager is very helpful. Basically what I loved about this hotel is that it stands true to the basic hospitality a hotel should provide without trying to enter into competition using unnecessary friils like other hotels. Our stay there was very comfortable and highly enjoyable. I would definitely recommend this hotel to other travellers.
Excellent location, clean but keep your expectations reasonable
by AlastairD296 on
Chinar is located at the end of a road within a short walk of the main market streets of McLeod Ganj. The area is quiet and there is a garden out the front with mountain views. The tarrif, by local standards is reasonable (but check your bill carefully) and the rooms are large and clean. There is some hot water from a geyser but the pressure is low - I filled the bucket and poured water with a jug that is supplied. There are two complaints, both of which could be fixed easily. The first is that the rooms are cold. You can buy a cheap radiator from the market but management should supply them. Secondly the corridors are noisy, which could be easily fixed if the management put some carpet or matting down. Voices and the TVs echo through the building.
A Home Stay Without Luxuries
by Mohit L on
This is a good hotel for those who want to stay in a hotel which is quiet and not far from the main mall area with basic amenities and home like good food. Those expecting star rated luxuries should avoid. The staff is nice, attends to you well, the food is made fresh and is delicious, home like, the rooms are spacious and walking distance from the Dalai Lama's Monastery and the main mall area. Nice clean rooms & bathrooms.......a comfortable stay!
Worst hotel ever in Mcleodganj
by Abhimaniue G on
The worst hotel ever in Mcleodganj...better to sleep on the road than to get Chinar Lodge. Worst hospitality. Shameless staff. It's basically a disappointment in the name of a hotel. If I were to rate it on a scale of 0-10 , I would rate it a -10 (minus ten). Tourists, personal advice. Please consider sleeping in your cars, eating out, talking to an uneducated person, but never ever visit this hotel...

The room on the top right corner is best. They have shown the same room in the pictures.
