Mukteshwar stands in the Kumaon Hills at a height of 2150 m. This town of Nainital district is a far-famed tourist destination, whose name is derived from a 350-year old temple of Lord Shiva. The temple is popular as Mukteshwar Dham and is situated at the highest point of the town. In the vicinity of this temple, there are overhanging cliffs where rock climbing and rappelling can be enjoyed. One of the other things to do in Mukteshwar is visiting the Top Cottage Temple, where Shri Mukteshwar Maharaj ji used to live. Here tourists can meditate and listen to the preaching of Swami Sanshudhanand ji, a disciple of Shri Mukteshwar Maharaj ji.
There are various attractions in Mukteshwar, which tourists can visit during their stay in the town. The Indian Veterinary Research Institute (IVRI) houses many laboratories and a visit to this place would be very knowledgeable. Travellers can also explore the beautiful orchards of Central Institute of Temperate Horticulture. A walk through these orchards would definitely make their Mukteshwar sightseeing experience cherishable.
Tourists visiting Mukteshwar can plan a trip to Nainital, which is approximately 51 km away. This hill station is home to a number of attractions, including the Nainital Lake, Gurney House, St. John in the Wilderness and Naini Peak. Apart from visiting Nainital, travellers can pay a visit to Haldwani, which is famous for its quaint villages and deciduous forests.
