A pleasant and homely residence with a beautiful garden. The staff are friendly and accommodating and the host is able to tell you the names of the plants growing around you. The garden overlooks a river, with surprisingly little plastic waste in it, which is exceptional in India generally.

Booked John's cottage at Munnar only because booking.com had a fake entry of another cottage. Thankfully the driver knew about this property which is almost at the centre of Munnar. All the restaurants and tourists spots are nearby and best of all if you are fond of trekking they have very good spots nearby. The caretaker though is not that much helpful. But Mrs. Anita is very helpful and always smiling. John the owner of the property, himself is a very nice guy, always helping. SN restaurant, Mirchi Restaurant and Sree Kumaran Hotel all serve veg and non veg with the latter two serving local cuisines better and cheaper. Also Latha Store nearby has all the basic necessary amenities. All in all good stay. P.S. Only dinner is served. And tea ofcourse.

After getting room/refreshments sorted, on arrival I was directed to the local plantations: staff so helpful! Food was excellent, other guests friendly, and an early morning trek was arranged-all well beyond the call of duty!

We were taken to John's Cottage by our cab driver who drove us to Munnar from Cochin. We had no real plan of what to do in Munnar so were totally open to options. John's cottage was great! We were welcomed so warmly and got to pick which room we wanted for our stay. The whole place has such a homey feel and all the staff are great. We got advice on where to go for food, tea, and who to talk to about going on treks. There's a common area to hangout and play cards or eat, and a great garden to sit around. I didn't want to leave John's or Munnar!

DON'T GO TO THIS PLACE! As our previous booking got canceled, we were dropped of at this place by our chauffeur, not knowing the TripAdvisor score or anything (no internet). We had a relatively oke stay the first day, however we experienced a (nowadays) typically Indian money shortage in all at ms ij the city the second day. When John and 3 other man arrived, he wanted the money for our total stay in advance. We told him it was physically not possible and that we would wait until the next day and pay him. He demanded that we would take a taxi right away (8.30pm) across the mountains towards a village 30km away. He and some guard drove behind us the whole way like gangsters and we felt extremely intimidated. There would have been many other ways for him to get his money but you can't argue with him. This is NO way to treat your guests. I have never experienced something like this in the whole of India and I have traveled there for 7 weeks total. Seeing the other comments here, if everything goes well, John might be an ok guy, but when things don't go his way, you're in big trouble. Don't take the risk, there are nicer places.
