This hotel is well placed to visit the local area for markets, walking and visiting the tea museum. The location looks over the surrounding tea plantations and is quiet and tranquil.Meals are a fixed menu, but there is a good variety of vegetarian and meat dishes. There is a pool and on some nights an outside bbq.

Our garden rooms were well appointed and comfortable however the view from the balcony was mostly of trees or the new hotel/ apartments being build just below the hotel. This is really beginning to impact on the hotels ambiance. Food was good - the best coffee we had in Kerala and we enjoyed the guided walk through the cardamom plantation. Staff are friendly and helpful although more formal than in the other places we stayed.

As it is set on a hill in its own coffee and cardamon plantation, in my opinion the best way to arrive at the Windermere Estate is by jeep from the Munnar Headworks Dam. This select resort has only 18 rooms arranged around the original Planter's Bungalow. Each "guest house" has 4 suites, two on the upper floor (Estate Rooms) and two on the ground floor (Garden Rooms). Each suite has two large single beds, in room safe and hairdryer. There is an overnight laundry service (collection by 10.00 for return by 09.00 the following morning). Our Estate Room balcony had a wonderful view across a neighbouring tea plantation. The centre of the property is a 70 foot high boulder (with a viewing platform on the top) which gives 360-degree views of the surrounding countryside. There is a 'naturally heated' outdoor swimming pool, a library and a "tea shop". Meals are taken in "The Barn"; Breakfast from 07.30 to 09.30; Lunch from 13.00 to 18.00 (sandwich, fruit juice and a dessert 450 rupees + tax per person); 3 course Dinner from 19.30 to 21.20 (2 vegetarian choices and 2 non-vegetarian choices). The free afternoon tea (from a neighbouring estate) or coffee (from the resort's own plantation) and a local snack of the day is served in the "tea shop" from 15.30 to 18.00. Room service is also available from 07.00 to 22.00. Although alcohol is not served, guests can drink their own in their rooms. A plantation walk, with a naturalist, is available every day (meeting time 15.30 to 16.00). The walk takes about 2 hours (just over a mile) over medium terrain. There is also a walk along the road to the resort to the Porthamedu View Point. If all this wasn't enough, the staff are most helpful and friendly and cannot do enough for you. My wife is Gluten Free and her every need was dealt with.

Two nights here visiting tea plantations. It's almost a homestay - no choice of menu - but very good food. Great afternoon walk around the estate. Interesting. Comfortable rooms, good afternoon tea. Enjoyed it.

The location is simply excellent, right in the middle of the tea plantations a few km outside the town. The staff were especially friendly and helpful, and were what made this stay exceptional rather than simply excellent
