The first thing I would say is the pictures on the website nowhere near do this place justice, it has a certain magic. We were lucky enough to have a room looking directly out over the vista of the valley below which although hazy was majestic. The food was wonderful, some of the most authentic we tasted on the holiday (with the caveat that you need to like Keralan food!). There is a lovely swimming pool though I was the only brave soul there who actually went in as it is unheated at 5,000ft up.... but soon warmed up in the sunshine. Lovely touch is afternoon tea and cakes in a covered semi outdoor rotunda on the lawn. At sunset everyone, and particularly the camera enthusiasts like me, gather on the look out point to watch the amazing sunsets.

We spent two nights here during a two week tour of Kerala. Absolutely loved it, it is a small and very friendly hotel, the setting is so beautiful, our cottage was huge, and at the end of a pathway so was absolutely private and tranquil. Plenty of hot water for showers, very clean. The staff were lovely, and although the restaurant food was a set menu, I thoroughly enjoyed absolutely everything that was provided. My friend went on the plantation walk which was quite strenuous but very enjoyable. We attended a great cookery demonstration, and on our second night there was a BBQ in the grounds which served delicious snacks as our starters, and drinks, then we went back to the restaurant for the rest of the meal. If you are expecting 5 star luxury Windermere is not for you. However its rustic charm and the beautiful setting made it perfect for us and we loved it!

Our experience at this establishment was so awful that we had no choice but to check out after only one night (having paid for two). The dreadful cottage we stayed in was quite dilapidated with stained bedside rugs, rock hard beds and no running water on the second day. The owner (Dr Simon) was totally indifferent to the situation and suggested we move to a dingy room over the reception centre by the car park (he had previously tried to put us in this noisy room when we first arrived). Faced with the prospect of having either no bathroom or a noisy room we decided to leave and booked into the neighbouring hotel - Blackberry Hills. This stunning Retreat/Spa Hotel was totally different in every way to the Windermere - it had clean beautiful rooms, comfy beds, great restaurant and amazing views (plus hot running water!) not forgetting polite staff who treated us as welcomed guests. It is very rare that I have left a poor review but I sincerely hope this Faulty Towers manager doesnt ruin other visitors experience of the lovely Munnar region.

We went to Windermere as a new couple 10 years ago, and just decided to celebrate going back to this place with our son. Much has changed and yet it remains the same. There are few new cottages, new furnishings and bathrooms, but the service and hospitality remains just the same. Warm and cordial. Some of the staff remembered us from back then and even bought us a cake after dinner to welcome us back on our anniversary. It was a fun stay. Initial thoughts were to stay for 1 day and then go out and try out some resorts in the area, but the cavalry (wife&son) wouldn't budge, so we settled for 2 days and enjoyed the views and quiet. More than the soaps or the cleanliness of the sheets or the quaint sorroundings, it is the staff that serve you here which brings together the charm of this place. I couldn't say more. They had a barbecue in the evening one night and a cooking class on the other.

Spent two nights here. Very quiet as off season and we were looked after extremely well by all the staff. Room was perfect and very cool and comfortable - its designed as a plantation estate rather than a hotel -and the views to the surrounding tea plantations beautiful (has a viewing platform). Grounds beautifully kept with a lovely swimming pool, a tea/coffee shelter and The Barn restaurant which has a library above it. The food was excellent. There was a 2h plantation walk in the afternoon included. Highly recommended for a peaceful break.
