We booked the property in advance and showed up on the 5th at about 5:30pm and they told us that they are fully booked. We showed them our booking confirmation and talked to the manager on the phone, he offered me a different room at a complete other location. We decideded to look for something else becaus the other location was dirty an directly next to a noisy street. After talking to some locals about Zina Cottage they told me all the same story. After the owner died last year it was taken over by some greedy boys which only care about money. If you show up late in the evening, they just give the room to someone else an offer you the other bad and dirty location for the same price. Zina cottage is a fraud, don't book it!

I have just had a terrible stay at Zina Cottage and urge anyone to find different accommodation in Munnar and not be conned as we were. My boyfriend and I were recommended this place by a friend of mine who stayed there a couple of years ago. She told me it was a beautiful little cottage with a few nice and affordable rooms right in the tea plantations with great views. It looked great on the Zina website so we called up in advance and booked a room for two nights at 1200 rupees a night. When we arrived, we were told that we were too late and our room had been given away although they had not specified any check in time on the phone. We were taken down a side road to a complex around the back of the cottage made up of 10 rooms which looks like a run down motel and told that the next day we would be moved upstairs which we assumed meant into the actual cottage which we had booked. The next day we were simply moved to another identical room in the same complex - the rooms are dirty and stained and musty with no shower in our first one and an unmade, stained bed. We went to speak to the manager (we never worked out who this actually is but there are a few men who seem to be running it) and expressed our unhappiness at being given a totally different room outside the cottage for the same price as the cottage rooms - it wasnt about the room quality it was just that we werent prepared to pay the same amount for a room that is half as nice and in a totally different property from what we had booked. The manager was extremely rude and argumentative, he lied about the price of the cottage rooms, had a go at us for complaining and did not apologise at all- we were really shocked by his response and refused to pay more than 2000 for 2 nights which he VERY reluctantly accepted . However, these rooms are not even worth 1000 a night - all of the positive reviews on here are from those lucky to stay in the actual cottage which has only 5 rooms and from which you wouldnt even see the other complex (which is new and has ten rooms) as it is on the other side. It seems they fill up the cottage and then overflow into the new rooms and hope that no one says anything as an easy money-making con in place of what was once a nice place to stay (I have read that the management changed which makes sense) whilst only advertising the cottage rooms online. So please dont fund this kind of unpleasant deception any further !

I was recommended Zina cottages by a girl I met who's fiend had stayed there! We just turned up and they happened to have one room left which was lucky. The cottages are nestled in the tea plantations about a ten minute walk from Old Munnar. We jumped in a rik shaw which cost 50 rupees. The views are stunning and we spent a fair amount of time reading in the garden or at the communal table. Sunset was beautiful!! And it's nice waking up early with the birds singing and the mist over the tea. The garden is filled with pretty flowers and has a pink fence all the way around. The manager was happy to help us with any questions we had and he also helped us with our onward journey. He made us breakfast which was an extra charge but delicious. We also had teas and coffees throughout the day which were 25 rupees each. The room was spacious and there was an entrance hall and shower room. The room had a rustic feel about it and was reasonably basic but had a table and two chairs and a view over the garden. The bed was comfy and was a large double. There was hot water so we could have a warm shower!! The room had doors to two other bedrooms adjoining which were locked however would be useful if you have children or want rooms adjoining which can be accessed. There was a little noise from the bedrooms next door but this wasn't off putting as it was only during the daytime and at night everyone was quieter to respect each other's peace and sleep. If we returned to Munnar we would definitely booked a room a Zina's as it was out of the way, had such stunning views but was also convenient and friendly. Thank you to Zinas for making our time special

While planning for the trip we have booked deep woods however after reaching there we got to know that the mmt offer is not applied and reservation staff started asking for full payment excluding the offer. Dropped the plan and started all over again to search for new accommodation. Luckily ended up finding this place. Raja was very welcoming and helpful. Scenic view of the cottage is pleasant however they need to work towards the interior of the bedroom and washrooms. Would definitely like to go back again!! highly recommended if looking for a peaceful vacation.

Nearly four weeks in Southern India, and this was our one and only horrible experience. The place is managed by a few boys who don't understand the first thing about hospitality. They are loud, rude and unfriendly and only interested in money. Our room, and specifically the bathroom was filthy and a glance in the kitchen told us that we'd better not have a meal there, with all the food on the ground and animals roaming about. Even the simple breakfast gave me a bad gastritis. The outside and surroundings of the cottage are marvellous, but everything inside those pink walls is terrible...
