Beautiful staff, gorgeous building, excellent food. There are many great things about the Green Hotel not the least of which is that not only do you you live in a beautiful place with an amazing history ( it was also for many years a film studio) but that the profits they make all go back to local charities. One tiny note,, those who are light sleepers may want to bring earplugs. We feel mean mentioning this because it is the only tiny flaw in this otherwise excellent place and a couple of Kingfishers in their beautiful garden should resolve the issue for most people. Oh, one other thing, weve been on the road for 8 months now, about 3 in India and the coffee and cakes here are THE BEST weve had since leaving Sydney.

An excellent place to stay in Mysore because it has great character and style and is well priced but moreover because it is based on wonderful principles - profits go to help the disadvantaged. Our train away was in the early evening and we were kindly allowed to stay until then. Breakfast was very good and restaurant also.

We stayed in the travellers rooms at the back which, I suspect, are considerably quieter than those in the main building. The grounds of the hotel are lovely and reception was courteous and smooth. The rooms are a fair size and have a lot of charm but, in all honesty, I think they are overpriced. I enjoyed the South Indian breakfast (Western option available) that was included, but didn't eat any other meal there, so can't comment on that aspect. The people at the travel desk were friendly and offered fair exchange rates along with reasonable rates for outstation transport. All in all, it was a pleasant stay. If they were to knock the price down 1000 rupees, it would be good value and I would consider staying there again.

Reception was quite good and smooth. Very well maintained property. I selected this place only for this reason. What other reviewers say about food and noise are correct. Food: Palatable, good for kiddos without affecting their appetite. We had an option for dosa one day which was served hot. Otherwise, food is served cold. In Mysore, you wouldnt want to have a breakfast in this hotel because it is complimentary. Lot of options outside, you can try one if you still feel necessary. Noise: it gets noisier at night and you will realise it when you hit the bed after a tiresome day. Even at midnight, I woke up with the noise. Wouldnt prefer to stay here for this reason though I simply love the rooms and the politeness of staff.

Im really surprised this hotel gets good reviews as we stayed one night here and had to leave. The concept is great, the problem is the hotel is right next to a very busy major road. It might be different if your room is in the original building, but we were in a modern building off to the side. The room was narrow and long and the only windows are at the front, on either side of the door, so the room is dark, and this is not helped by insufficient lighting. Above the windows and door there is no glass, just fly mesh. So talking, relaxing and sleeping in the room is difficult because of the constant barrage of traffic noise and very loud beeping of horns. You are required to eat your breakfast in a dusty three sided annex right next to the road and dinner is served outside on the grass. This means you are subjected to traffic noise and beeping almost all the time. The original building is lovely but not as large as the word palace implies. Its a mystery meals arent served on the enclosed veranda and sitting room, which was empty during our one day stay. This would be a quieter and more enjoyable option. There are no website photos of the annex we had to have breakfast in, just the gorgeous cafe, so you assume you will be eating there, but that is not where meals are served. The gardens, which are praised in other reviews, looked very rundown and un-loved. There was a wall of banked pots full of dead plants and the grass was patchy and hadnt been cut for some time. To top it all off it is a long way out of town. We had thought this would mean its quiet, but we got the opposite! We are now in the centre of town in a quiet business hotel with air con, and feeling much more relaxed. The staff at the green hotel were helpful and polite, but that is usually the case in India and not a reason for giving a four or five star review!
