Nagarhole is famous for the Nagarhole National Park, which is spread across Kodagu and Mysore districts of Karnataka. It is one of the tiger reserves formed in 1999 as a part of 'Project Tiger'. The small town of Nagarhole is blessed with picturesque surroundings, gushing waterfalls, dense forests and few remarkable monuments. Due to all these factors, Nagarhole tourism is steadily thriving.
The Nagarhole National Park, also known as the Rajiv Gandhi National Park, is certainly the greatest attraction here. Spread over an area of 643 sq km, the park envelopes some parts of the Western Ghats and Brahmagiri Hills. Other protected wildlife areas in its proximity are the Bandipur National Park, Mudumalai National Park and Wayanad Wildlife Sanctuary.
With various species of flora and fauna, the park looks beautiful. Rosewood, teak, sandalwood and silver oak trees are found in large quantity at the park. Other plantations include Crocodile Bark, Indian Kino Tree, Rosewood and Axle wood. The park is also home to many species of animals, the most prominent being the tiger. Other animals, including Indian Bison, deer, sloth bears, leopards, wild dogs and elephants, are also the highlights of the park. Bird watchers also visit this park as birds like Oriental White-backed Vulture, 'Vulnerable' Lesser Adjutant, Greater Spotted Eagle and Nilgiri Wood-pigeon can be easily spotted here.
The town and its bordering areas are abundant in natural resources. There are many places to visit in Nagarhole; however, most of the tourists prefer to spend their time in the Nagarhole National Park.
