Arrival in Delhi is a shock to the senses and travel from the airport, even in a chauffeur driven car is an "experience" to those used to conformity with accepted traffic rules and restrained use of the horn! So a restful retreat which balances the need for recovery with setting a benchmark for the forthcoming holiday experience is what one would hope for. Colonel's Retreat far exceeds these minimum requirements. A warm welcome with a cup of tea and the oft referred to banana bread and the opportunity to relax and unwind come as standard. Our room was spacious, clean and comfortable and afforded rest before setting out to explore. The nearby metro station provides access to all parts of Delhi (in our case we went to the INA market) and having acquired skill and expertise with tokens and security returned to face our first meal. Here we had the privilege of meeting Arun, the owner and the opportunity we had hoped for to have the first of many conversations during our holiday touching on many aspects of life in modern day India. Our thali dinner was exactly what we might have hoped for and we rose after a good night's sleep, ready for breakfast. You will not be disappointed if you go for the Indian option at breakfast and you will certainly not be hungry! If you are lucky you may have the opportunity, as we did, to meet and converse with Arun's charming wife and gain yet further insight before setting off to experience this wonderful Country. We could not have wished for a better start to what proved to be a truly mind-enhancing holiday. Thank you and we will be certain to make this our stay when we return.

I have stayed at the Colonel's on a previous trip to India and I came back. It is a good place to stay in Delhi, in the Armed services area, a quiet and unhastled place. The Colonels is comfortable and homeley without being obtrusive, the staff are happy and efficient and the management approachable and willing to stop and talk. A great place to stay.

Firstly the location is not good, in terms of access to restaurants and other points of interest. Secondly, whilst the room was fine in terms of size, the door frames, a/c unit controller and bathroom generally were simply not clean. there was nowhere in the bathroom to place a washbag, shaving kit etc. Hospitality was good and food was ok, but being faced with 3 unsealed jam jars, one of which was half empty, at breakfast was very disappointing.

A lovely place to visit a little oasis, staff so friendly, food was delicious and homemade, so homely and spotlessly clean, thank you for letting us share your home! Hopefully return again some day it was our first trip to India

We stayed two nights at the Colonels Retreat for our first stop off in India, and we were very pleased. The staff made us very welcome, the rooms were comfortable, the service quiet and unassuming, and the food was delicious. The rooftop restaurant was nice to sit at the end of the day enjoying a beer and having a home cooked meal. The owners made sure to greet all of their guests and took time to explain the different food on offer. Breakfast was excellent, and the complimentary tea and cake, not to mention the banana bread, was a nice touch to come back to after a full day exploring Delhi. It was amazingly quiet at night and the bed very comfy so a good nights sleep indeed.
