So, let's say you're a westerner and it's your first time in India. You fly into Delhi. It's crowded. The streets are chaos. There are cows in the road. And it's bloody hot. What are you going to do? Go to a tourist office? Catch a hop on/hop off bus to the red fort? Pssh, not for one second. You're finally here and you're excited but you're nervous because you've been told so often to take caution. Enter Madpackers hostel. Check this, so one they'll pick you up from the airport. If you arrive at 5am, this is a big deal. When you get there you'll notice a cafe that serves up really good food and tea, which you're so thankful for because you're mad with hunger after that long, arduous flight that was delayed unexpectedly. Eating there will be one of the first things you'll do. You'll see the common room where guests relax, read, and commune. If you're lucky, you'll be able to watch a cricket match there like I did, or participate in impromptu Bollywood dancing, like my partner did. There's the rooftop, where you'll sit and talk and smoke and drink (if that's your thing) later in the night. In the morning, you'll want to see Delhi but you'll have to brace for the chaos. Fret not. Madpackers has a number of tours to help you see the city in an authentic way, but without any of the chaos. I highly recommend the Delhi Belly food tour, but there's also a sundowner's tour for sunset lovers, a Taj Mahal day trip and other things going on (we played a cricket game on afternoon). Okay, tours, common rooms, and good foods are the tentpoles of a good hostel. Fine. But what makes Madpacker's great? It's the people there. Not just the travelers (though they are pretty rad) but the employees, Raghu and Anes specifically. These guys see so many people come and go, but they know everyone's name. They befriend you quickly. They'll hang with you, dance with you, eat with you (if you want them to), and joke with you. They'll give hugs when you leave. These guys understand what it's like to travel and are adept at delivering all the amenities you need. And when you realize you finally have to leave, alll the employees are great at helping you book your next step (train bookings can be tricky). Oh, and they'll help you install sim cards, too (which can be quite complicated). Book madpackers. Make friends with Raghu and Anes.

I stayed at Madpackers pretty much exactly the same time last year and left them a very positive review. Unfortunately, I cant do the same this year. I stayed in the female dorm, the door lock was apparently broken so we were asked to keep it open all the time or ask the desk guy for a key. Secondly each bed has a plug socket to charge your items three out of the six beds plugs were broken. The sheets and pillowcases are marked and the bathroom needs a deep clean and repair. Items went missing from my room and whilst the friendly guys who work at the hostel (the only thing madpackers really has going for it now) looked and checked with housekeeping these items never reappeared. I was not offered an apology just told to say goodbye to the missing items and another guest probably picked up the items by accident. Im skeptical. Im sad to have to write this bad review because the staff are very nice but madpackers arent keeping up the times and is in my opinion overpriced compared to other offerings more in the heart of Delhi.

One of my favorites in India so far!! Helpful friendly staff and the room was clean and comfortable (6 woman dorm) Roof top is rad to hang out and also a nice common room! Breakfast was included and DELICIOUS! Other food from the kitchen was also delicious, must try the Oreo shake!!

We booked a female bedroom and stayed there for two nights. The hostel is ok, very average. good to meet people but far from city centre and the area doesn't offer too much. It is also slightly overpriced. If you are looking for a place to meet people go for it, if you are looking for a quiet place where you can visit Delhi from, maybe better to look for something else
