How to travel to Ooty
Ooty in Tamil Nadu is well-connected to the neighbouring southern states by way of air, rail and road, making travelling to Ooty a piece of cake.
Approximately 95 kilometre away from Ooty is the Coimbatore International Airport. The airport receives flights from major cities in India like Mumbai, New Delhi, Hyderabad, Chennai, Trivandrum, Bangalore, Ahmedabad to name a few. Carriers like SpiceJet, Alliance Air, Indigo
among others run direct flight to Coimbatore from most Indian metros. On the international front, Coimbatore is connected directly to Sharjah, Colombo and Singapore. The Ooty Railway Station is about 6 kilometre from the main city centre, and from there you can get to your hotel in around 15 minutes by a local taxi. This railway station is a part of the Nilgiri Mountain Railway, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, with trains travelling down to Mettupalayam in Coimbatore taking about 2 hours. Mettupalayam is otherwise the main railhead in the region. From the Coimbatore Railway Station too there are daily passenger trains to Mettupalayam, and from there on into the Ooty Railway Station.
The Ooty Central Bus Stand too is around 6 kilometre from main Ooty city. From the bus stop, most resorts are a quick 20-minute drive away past lovely terraced scenery. There are buses by the Tamil Nadu State Road Transport Corporation or TNSTC
coming in from parts of Tamil Nadu like Salem, Chennai, Coimbatore, Kanyakumari, Tirupur, Kumbakonam among others. You can even rely on a variety of state buses connecting Ooty to cities in Karnataka like Mysore and Bangalore. Though, there are hardly any private operators on this route.
