We stayed at Colonel's Inn for two nights and were quite disappointed. While this place is very well located, just a few minutes walk from the Botanical Gardens and downtown area, the house lacks character. Although there are communal areas that have potential, they currently are far from cosy. Communication in English was extremely difficult (twice we had to go through the very helpful owner who does not live on site, via telephone in order to communicate effectively with the staff). Ultimately this is basic accommodation at a luxury price.

Was in Ooty during Dec 25 and 26 2018 for two nights with parents and kids. We opted for King deluxe room with two beds which can easily accommodate 4 adults and 2 kids. Room was big and wooden floored. Room was with a heater, however we rarely used it. Restroom was clean and well maintained. Location is near to Botonical Gardens and shopping centers. Excellent cook and support staff who were very courteous and accommodative. Breakfast options are limited, however food quality and service is excellent. Will surely visit again, Cons: Blankets needs to be maintained well.

Location is 5 mins walk from the botanical garden and Tibetan market so I saw the Botanical garden twice! Spotlessly clean large rooms and bathrooms, very well maintained though it is an old property. Not noisy like the ooty bus stand. beds are very soft. Complimentary breakfast is sumptuous and very tasty enough to keep you full till evening. Gopal and Sangliana took very good care of us. Homely atmosphere. All kinds of food can be made available if ordered in advance as Gopal is a superb cook. certainly value for money highly recommended. One of the best homestays I have stayed in.

Well maintained rooms with heart touching home cooked food. That's colonels inn. Gopal the care take and Nazeer his assistant are doing a fabulous job. Clean rooms and this bungalow is situated in the heart of the city. Enjoyed the stay thank you.

Positive first as there were LOTS of negatives for us. 1 Heater in the room 2 Hot water 3 food was tasty 4 wifi worked. Not so positive. When we arrived a staff member was actually on our bed - the sheets were quickly changed and the room re cleaned. The door to our room had a gap down the middle - you had a birds eye view of the bed - we had to use a table cloth from outside to mask the gap. The room itself was ok - it was NOT the room in the picture that we booked. We stayed 2 nights. Breakfast was tasty but the room is dark and dingy - curtains pulled during the day and the room had lots of flies - table mats falling apart and jam that tasted like medicine (so sad when homemade is so easy to do and good makes easily available) We were asked if we would like our room cleaned - we said yes however it never happened. The place itself is not dirty but it is need of continual sweeping with the amount of traffic coming in and out and the flies are a nuisance. Night 2 was nothing short of a nightmare - other guests having a LOUD party. Banged on the door they refused to answer. No answer from the 'caretaker' despite calling many many times (God forbid an emergency occurs) no answer from the owner who was in Bangalore my call cut. Didnt take the call but responded to text. Party finally stopped gone 1 am. Owner did apologise. Guests should know The church is virtually next door - the loud speakers from there started before the sun was up on Sunday morning. Very disturbed sleep and owner though apologetic can not give that time back. I really dont know why this is called a 'homestay' at least on the site we booked from as the owner obviously doesnt live there so if you are after interacting with a family in their home skip here. It is a centrally located guests house in town. We were very unlucky with the other guests who were staying there - it was far from the quiet stay we had hoped for.
