What's Good: Actually this is an excellent hotel But there are some problems that are keeping me from giving it a full star review. First the good part 1. The hotel staff was very supportive. We reached Ooty at 6 in the morning and called them up to check if we can checkin early. Although the checkin time was 12 they managed to give us one room (out of two we booked) at 8:30 am. We were delighted and could freshen up and leave for the sight seeing. Second instance was when we asked if we can play the table tennis at 9am. Although the kids area was to open around 2pm they let us play the table tennis at 9am. Excellent hospitality. 2. The rooms are quite spacious, the facilities in the room are good, the landscaping is beautiful, the reception area is wonderfully maintained and decorated, they have a vintage card stationed there with a huge wooden carved wheel on the wall, they have a flower garden of their own, there is a chariot of roses standing in the garden, they have a deck outside the restaurant with an incredible view of the hills and city, i thoroughly enjoyed sitting there sipping my coffee with the warm sun and a fantastic view. 3. The room service was prompt. I asked for 2 extra towels. They brought only 1 first but got the 2nd within a minute when reminded. Now the bad part. 1.The hotel is not that near the city center as they would have you believe. From the bus/rail stop the auto would charge 200/250 to get you to hotel. Same story when coming back. 2. The water which was coming was muddy. It was so dirty you can even hold the water in your palm and make out the dirt in it. After a full day of site seeing this is hardly pleasing as you wont want to wash your head. 3. In toilet almost everything was leaking. 4.The restaurants inside are very expensive The thai rest. we tried was horrible with skyhigh prices. 5. The rent one has to pay is a little steep when considering the cons i have already mentioned. All in all a good place to stay if you can overlook the bad part

THIS HOTEL DO NOT OFFER GOOD ROOMS (ALL ROOMS ARE OF SAME SIZE) WHAT THEY OFFER TO FOREIGNERS. I was given 2nd floor room which was stinking, stains all over bed sheet & pillow covers, dirty toilets over all a minus 2 star property if I rate according to the room given on 2nd floor. This is what they offer to all Indian who come either alone or as family or in a group when I went to reception & requested to change the room, I was told by this lady that this is the best room they have given me (Liars) I could not believe that & called my travel agent & asked to change my hotel & withing minutes the manager came to me, apologized & to my surprise he offered me a better room but when I said the lady said this is the best, he said never mind & asked me to come to check another room which I agreed & went with him, it was better room on 4th floor & again he promised to give me better room next morning!!! (which is on 6th floor) Well, I saw many foreigners in lobby but not a single on 2nd floor or on 4th floor (which I was offered by manager) so I said let me check the better room which he was offering next morning which was on 6th floor & here I see all foreigners...the rooms here were much much better, well decorated, more lights, good bathroom. The price & size of rooms are same but this is the discrimination they do between Indians & foreigners since they offer this floor only to foreigners !!! Coming to location, its too far from market, you need car or else you are stuck at hotel. Food is good, dining area is a real sparkle, spread is good, staff service is good but the only thing that hurts that they do not offer good rooms to Indians since we Indians have tendency of 'Chalega'. Take/insist rooms on 6th floor only. View is good, room service is very very costly, one grilled veg. s/w costs Rs. 400.00 !!! Conclusion - Avoid this hotel unless you get a good package & room/s on 6th floor.

This hotel is rated as 4*: it most certainly is not. At most it is a 2 and ,if we had booked a 2* hotel, I would not be writing this. The fact that some reviews say awesome makes me seriously doubt whether they are from genuine customers. Oh dear, where to start? The place is freezing and we had to wear coats in the dining room and have a bath to get warm. The advertised indoor heated swimming pool was derelict and half full of dirty water when we got there and had clearly been like that for some time. The shopping arcade is one small stall in the lobby selling local chocolates. The whole place smells musty. It must have been lovely in its glory days and could be again if it was cared for and updated. On the good side, our first dinner was excellent with attentive staff.

We spent 2 nights at Gem Park, Ooty. The hotel is at a high elevation. Our driver negotiated 36 hairpin bends to reach the hotel. We had a wonderful warm welcome from the staff and were shown to our room. Large bedroom with two sofas in the window, so we could sit and watch the stunning view. Night time view was particularly spectacular. Unfortunately, the main restaurant was closed for refurbishment, so meals were in the smaller Jade restaurant. The swimming pool was also closed . Again for refurbishment. Due to its high elevation, the hotel is cold. There was a patio area outside the restaurant for those brave enough to face the cold and the door seemed to be permanently open, which made the restaurant and the food cold. The bedroom was cold too. We managed to get the wall heater working, but it was inadequate for the size of the room. The pillows on the bed were very badly stained, so I opted not to use them. Not sure if the bathrooms had been fairly recently refurbished. They had a rather expensive look, being finished in granite and marble. Unfortunately, there was no extractor in the bathroom, so everywhere seemed to be dripping wet in condensation, including the windows in the bedroom. There was also a very bad smell in the bathroom which could be smelt in the bedroom This was masked by air freshner when we first went into the room. Think a good dose of bleach is whats required. Toiletries are provided and also tea and coffee making facilities. There was no refrigerator in the room and wifi was very slow, although much stronger in reception area. I do feel that this has probably been a beautiful hotel at some point, but sadly in need of some tlc. The hotel is in a stunning position and with some refurbishment could become a stunning hotel. My advice though is TAKE WARM CLOTHING as everywhere is cold.

We stayed at this hotel as part of a group tour of Southern India. Big room, big bathroom and plenty of space for our travel packs, however no refrigerator, the rooms were not sound proofed and wi- fi worked better outside the room than inside! The hotel is not located within walking distance to town. A big comfy bed, plenty of lighting and the room had a small step down lounge with views out to the distant trees.

Gem Park in Ooty. We were very disappointed with this Hotel. It was not a four star residence at all. I have attached some pictures of fixtures in our room which were really not acceptable with bare cables and exposed wires in the room and bathroom. Our room was cold the wall heater had been taken off the wall. We had to ask for a heater which we were provided with after asking a couple of times. Toilet was leaking every time we flushed it so that waste water was coming into the bathroom. There was always an unpleasant smell in the room. This accommodation really was not up to standard of the other accommodation we have stayed at in India.
