This is a unique property which is hard to compare to regular tourist stops by its nature. The history of the building, the family story and the life of the host himself was fascinating and glad that he shared that with us. The layout and facilities of the accommodation would be very challenging for some. Low ceilings, narrow doors, open air courtyards, limited hot water , very basic bedding. This would be part of the charm of the place as well though. The food was all home cooked, although the main chef was away, we had tilapia for lunch which was delicious and from the pond in the grounds. Dinner was a potato starter then coconut stew, chicken curry , then fried bananas. The village was quite sweet and nice to have a stroll around. The host offered to take us to the Brahmin village in Palakkad - seeing as we used our vehicle and driver we were then surprised on checking out to be charged quite so much for the experience which was fairly short and only ok. We were traveling down from Ooty to Kumarakom so stopped here to break the journey up. Glad we stayed one night but would not have made a longer stop.

KS Bhagwaldas makes every guest feel at home at his lovely heritage home. The rooms are comfortable, the food tasty, and he ensures guests are well taken off right from the time they arrive he meets them personally, the welcome drink is a refreshing fresh allspice leaf drink; during the stay as he discusses local culture; and during local trips when he accompanies guests to different places and works out different experiences from the local temple festival to the Palakkad fort, breakfast of the famous Ramassery idli, exploring the unique history and heritage of Kalpathy, and other places. He is courteous, cultured and helpful.

this is an old family property that was once the centre of commerce in a rural area. The owner is a charming host and it is a good location to experience the Indian country side. Food is plentiful and authentic and the surrounding farm land and villages interesting for strolling (beware of wild dogs). Our bathroom could be modernised and water pressure seems to be an issue.

We really enjoyed our stay here. The property is beautiful, the room was spacious, clean and the bathroom large (there were a few frogs but you get used to them). The room had the only cold fridge we had in our 3 week stay in Kerala. The food was very good. The host made us feel completely at home. He took us to a Brahman village and a historic fort in the town. We found this very interesting and as we were only staying one night probably wouldn't have done it ourselves. The host was very pleasant but also very interesting, we learnned alot about the local culture. From other reviews I see there was a lot more we could have seen and done and the host can assist you with this. It was a pity we only had one night's stay there.

As the previous person has said this is a wonderful old house and the owner is so interesting. Very kindly with our driver he took us to see Marshall Arts, basket weaving, a festival, and we had breakfast in the famous tea shop. We were in a room where there was no glass in the windows so lots of mosquito spray! Also lights on to visit the loo in the night because we had frogs in the loo! Also there are dogs that bark. I was shown by the dear cook how to make a curry. All the servants work incredibly hard. I agree there is nowhere else to eat so do ask the cost of the meals. Pretty hefty!
