This was where I used to spend my weekends while I lived at Coimbatore.. the best time I had. We used to visit his place like once in a while and later got a lot of traveller friends, as there were many people who used to stay here several times. The food was freshly cooked there itself, vegetarian with a lot of side dish: There was no refrigerator there and so no question about old food. During day we used to go for trekking, and visits to nearby tribal hamlets. There was a guide named Kuruvayan and Babychayan,.. i still remember,.. who used to accompany us most of the time. We visited a few pristne waterfalls, called nalu or anju and Perumalmudy, a hill nearby. During the evening, we usually had chat with the owner of the restaurant, a person called Dominic Xavier. He himself is a traveler and he used to share his experience about traveling in Spity and villages of Madhya Pradesh. He was a very good person, with a very good knowledge : he reads a lot of books. There was no TV in the resort, but we had a very good time, reading books, watching nature.. there were a lot of bird species arriving to the restaurant. The place was silent, other than the lovely voice of birds. The entire plot was covered by huge trees, and had good shade. There were some vanila plantation there and I remember Babychayan giving us a lecture on vanila plantation once. I could see Vellingiri Hill (A hill which is considered holy) from the 1st floor of the restaurant and I felt it like an auspicious movement. Reaching the place was little difficult, as the road from Goolikadavu to Pettickal was not very comfortable, but the warmth and chillness of Malleeshwaram (Malleeshwaram is another holy hill of Attappady) lodge made us happy..

Best for guests who don't mind giant spiders or 5 star hotels with amenities. This is pure beautiful nature a short distance away from a tribal community. It is private and carefully vetted by Dominic, the host. I was the only guest and can't imagine any other people there. Dominic was an engaging kindred spirit who could spend hours talking about philosophy, spiritual ideas, Aldus Huxley, and proper yoga asanas. He ensured that I was accompanied on long hikes, a parent's night at the local school and also a trip to Silent Valley Natl. Park. I could sit in front of my hut and listen to barking deer, monkeys, special birds and other wildlife not to mention the 24/7 cacophony of sounds from insects, and other critters. This is certainly jungle but not the type you normally conjure up when you think of a typical jungle. I loved the stay here and extended the number of days twice. For me Dominic made it a special place, for others possibly bird watching but don't expect a tourist place, a place for families with kids, or special entertainment unless you like going to see a spectacular sunset.

This place is an absolute gem for people who are seeking the real experience of staying in perfect rural settings, away from all the madness. The place is not exactly a jungle lodge, its more of a village lodge that is situation in the middle of a sprawling (intentionally unkempt) coffee estate. The place is run very very professionally and has all the facilities of a typical rural lodge. Make sure you contact the care taker and precisely understand what the place offers and the ground rules for staying there. Because this is not a place for the typical tourist.
