Palitana is a city located in Gujarat at a distance of about 50 km from Bhavnagar, which is an important cultural hub. Patilana Temples are considered to be the most sacred place of worship for Svetambara Jains which makes the city an immensely popular pilgrimage centre. A trip to Palitana not only offers tourists a great vacation but also manages to quench their thirst for peace. As it is a religious city, thousands of devotees from all over the country flock to the city to pay obeisance.
Famous as the world's biggest temple complex, Palitana has more than 3000 temples situated on the very popular and holy Mount Shatrunjaya. These temples, exquisitely shaped in gleaming marbles, collectively form a visual spectacle rarely seen elsewhere. Numerous temples lining the hill from the bottom right to the peak display impeccable architectural techniques. The temple which is located at the top of the hill is an impressive structure mainly devoted to Lord Adinath, the very first Tirthankara of Jains. However, reaching the summit is no cake walk since as many as 3572 stairs lead to the top spot and tourists must keep aside at least 2 hr for the tiring ascent up the hill.
Sightseeing in Palitana takes a prominent position among things to do in this city. The majestic setting of the temples is sure to mesmerise all visitors who stay in the city for a while. Apart from visiting these interesting places, tourists can also take nature walks through the beautiful locales. Exploring Jain culture on a Palitana tour is also a clever idea for travellers. For devotees, the flight of stairs leading to the top of Mount Shatrunjaya is surely no less than an exhaustive trek!
