India's only diamond city, Panna forms the north-eastern part of the state of Madhya Pradesh. Apart from diamond mines, it is famous for its lofty hills, roll-on meadows, national park and temples. Over the years, the city has emerged as a popular tourist destination, drawing thousands of tourists from various parts of India. A trip to Panna will always be memorable as this former capital of Bundela Kingdom is known to welcome tourists with magnificent forts and lively atmosphere.
Among famous places in Panna, Panna National Park, rich in flora, fauna and avifauna, garners the biggest applause. This 22nd tiger reserve of India is spread over an area of 542.67 sq km. Tiger, sloth bear, hyena, leopard, sambhar and chinkara are some of the commonly found animals in the region. Apart from animals, birds like Honey Buzzard, Bar-headed Goose, King Vulture and Blossom-headed Parakeet are also found in this park. For being the well-maintained and tourist friendly national park, it was honoured with the 'Award of Excellence' by Ministry of Tourism in the year 2007.
Other worth visiting places in and around Panna are the Padmavatipuri Dham, Ken Gharial Sanctuary and Khajuraho Temples. Tourists can also plan a trip to Pandav Caves and Falls for enjoying picnicking and relaxing with near and dear ones. Their Panna tour cannot be called complete without paying a visit to the ancient shrines located in the region. These include the Mahamati Prannathji Temple, Badi Devi Temple, Jugal Kishoreji Temple and Baldeoji Temple.
