Patiala, one of the popular cities in Punjab, is located around a huge castle named Qila Mubarak. Serving as the capital of the district, Patiala is well-connected to major states of the country. With several historical sites, gardens and religious centres adorning Patiala, holidaymakers often come to this city to spend vacations. The Qila Mubarak Complex is situated at the heart of the city and is considered an important part of Patiala sightseeing. Spreading across a huge land area, it has 10 courtyards that differ from each other in terms of character and size. There are many shops located outside the Qila from where tourists can buy pricey ornaments, kurtis, jootis and parandis.
Sheesh Mahal, a portion of the Old Moti Bagh, is another tourist hotspot in the city. Also known as the 'Palace of Mirrors', it boasts of elegant frescos embedded on walls and ceilings. A lake adjacent to this attraction and a museum having a large collection of medals add to the beauty of Sheesh Mahal. Tourists can also explore Bahadurgarh Fort which was built during 137-45 by Maharaja Karam Singh. The fort houses Panj Bali Gurdwara where visitors can offer prayers and spend some time amid celestial atmosphere. Apart from the aforementioned places, tourists can pay a visit to Ijlas-e Khas, Maiji Di Sarai and Gurudwara Dukhniwaran Sahib during their Patiala tour.
Among other things to do in Patiala is shopping in popular markets and exploring culture of the city by attending on-going events. Tourists can also relish Punjabi cuisine which is famous all over India for its unmatched flavour and taste. Some dishes worth trying are Dal Makhani, Sarson ka Saag, Shahi Panner, Lamb Biryaani and Chicken Kebabs.
