Pench National Park is a Tiger Reserve, which is located in the state of Maharashtra. Spreading across an area of 257 sq km, this national park was declared as 'Tiger Reserve of India' in February 1999. The beautiful Pench River, after which the park has been named, flows through the centre of the park. Around 33 species of mammals, 50 species of fish, 164 species of birds, 30 species of reptiles and 10 species of amphibians are found in the region. One can travel to Pench to take a break from the routine life and spend some quality time in the lap of nature.
While on a Pench tour, travellers can spot animals like tigers, chausingha, nilgai, gaur, blackbuck, sloth bear and wild dog. Other animals found in the national park are monkeys, barking deer, hyena, sambhar, chital, wild boar, mouse deer, black-naped hare, jackal, fox, porcupine and flying squirrel. This place is a treat for bird watchers as visitors can spot different types of birds, such as storks, waterfowls, grey-headed fishing eagles, Indian pittas, Malabar pied hornbills and ospreys. In addition to these, visitors can spot four endangered species of vultures and green pigeon.
The park remains closed from July to September and the ideal time for exploring its wildlife is from February to April. While on a trip to Pench, travellers can also plan a trip to nearby attractions like Nagzira Sanctuary and Navegaon National Park.
