There are many times when we sleep over at our childhood buddies house and we dont complain even if theres something wrong because you have a great company... Dumas guest house is more like that ! Its a good property situated in a very prime location from where almost everything is a couple of mins walk away ! We went in June 2018 and the weather was hot. We stayed over a weekend. The property had a very nice French touch in its architecture and the guest house is run by a French couple who stay next to the property. Big clean rooms with big beds and big doors and windows . But a little less maintained I felt . The AC doesnt work properly, my washroom was a little smelly. We had a sachet of clinic plus shampoo and one small medimix soap in the name of toiletries. The towels provided were very old and washed and pressed. In breakfast they gave brown bread, one normal Omlette, cut fruits, juice or tea or coffee. If you dont wish to stay inside all day and want to take shelter only at night, this is nice property to look at a budget price !

Other writers capture overall strengths. For families-fridge in room, solid breakfast included (omelette, toast, fruit cup, juice). Can have one/two beds added to largish rooms. Great gelato around corner. Good value wine shop down street. Bakery/cafe/coffee at least 10 min walk away in morning. Coffee/tea at 6 am or in room my only suggestion.

Splendidly well-run guesthouse with 10 rooms all adequately appointed with large high-ceilinged bathrooms, AC, comfortable beds, and a garden atmosphere. Close to prime restaurants and viewing points, this guesthouse is only 100-m from the Malecon boardwalk. This is a delightfully peaceful location away from the hustle-bustle and is absent street noise. The French couple who managed the property are extraordinarily helpful and guest-conscious. The reception staff can book reliable local transportation to restaurants, bus station, train station, Auroville and suchlike ~ without fear that there is collusion for a commission with auto-rickshaw drivers. A light breakfast is included. The Wi-Fi is free (close to the reception in the garden area), and this peaceful location is well worth the ~$50/night (March, '18). Highly recommended.

Big rooms, high ceilings, fans (easy to adjust) and AC, hard but comfortable beds (bring your own cushion if you are picky with them like me), beautiful furniture, good bathroom, very friendly service, very good breakfast with an amazing omelette, croissants/toast and fresh fruit. Nice glass door in our room, so that light could come in but mosquitos could stay out. Behind the glass door was a wooden door to lock the place. It was beautifully carved with a massive lock, so one felt absolutely safe the whole time. Apart from that there was a staff member at the front door/entrance the whole time anyways. The garden/whole backyard was magical, with hanging lights from the trees. Plants with flowers that were just amazing. Chipmunks came over checking out the breakfast room which was an open room in the backyard. Absolutely beautiful. I had a cold and they gave me tea and a kettle so that I could make my own tea in my room. Jackie, the owner, gave us good tips where to find good restaurants, we got a map from her when we arrived. Just across the street is the Cafe de Flore from the Alliance Francaise. A few metres from the Hotel starts the Promenade and you can find a tuk-tuk just walking out the door to the right at the next corner. Altogether is was very cosy and friendly, the staff was so lovely and heartfelt. Just sitting in the shade in the backyard was a dream. It felt more like a home than a hotel. We travelled with two kids and had beds added to our room, which worked just fine.
