  • How travel should be...

    by Christine S on

Le Village Tamil is a charming and magical place in the heart of the paddy field, close to a peaceful river and amazing village. Our host was amazing from pick up at our hotel, warm welcome, organizing our tour around Pondicherry and to share their culture and tradition. I will recommend this place if you are looking for a genuine holiday and if you love Indian food which was amazingly cooked.

  • Homestay at a tour operator's house with good meals and an insight into village life

    by Thide on

Mr. Velu Samba is an industrious tour operator and B&B owner in a peaceful village close to Pondicherry. He is eager to please his guests. I enjoyed the cooking demonstration and the good vegetarian dinner prepared by his wife and bought her special blend of curry. My room was spacious, clean and had air condition although this part of the property was still a building site. Mr.Samba excelled even more as tour operator. He arranged for my further trips in Tamil Nadu. This did not come cheap, but his two drivers were reliable and knew where to go.

  • A great cultural experience

We had a very pleasant stay at Le Village Tamil. This experience is for you if you want to sample life in a typical village in Tamil Nadu. You will need to bear in mind that you will not have proximate access to urban recreational facilities like a movie theater or a shopping mall or restaurants of your choice. What you will get instead is a chance to see how a day in the life of a potter in a village is like, or just spend a day chilling out in Velu's place taking in the fresh air of the country side. If you have specific culinary preferences, Velu will do what it takes to make you as comfortable as possible, so plan your meal preferences in advance and let Velu know. Above all Velu's family are exceptionally attentive hosts and we were genuinely touched by the warmth, hospitality and generousness of Velu's family. If you are looking for a really good cultural experience, we highly recommend this.

  • Very friendly house !

If you are looking for a friendly, quiet and clean place : this is the place you must go. This is a little paradise totally different compared to the crowdy Pondichery city. The owner enjoys to welcome people.

  • Unique in South India!

Ok guys, this place was the huge discovery of our trip. Imagine living in a village surrounded by green and quiet rice paddies, coconut trees and the most welcoming farmers in the world. Village Tamil is not only a guesthouse, it's a whole experience. We booked the night when we were in Pondichery. The idea was to explore the countryside. Given the mess in indian cities, we did not expect anything from The Village Tamil, just a quick retreat in the country.Well, the first good surprise was the manager, Velmourougane, better known as Velou. As soon as he picked us up in the city, we knew it was going to be great. Velou has been in the tourist industry for a while and he knows exactly what Europeans want : authenticity! Velou took us to the village (a 30 minute drive from Pondicherry) and then we had our second good surprise: the view! you are literally in the middle of a green see of rice paddies and coconut trees. The guesthouse is a modest but very clean house in the middle of nowhere. As soon as we settled down in our very cosy room, Velou invited us to discover the area by ourselves. The real adventure starts here. Walking around this farmland is enchanting, Kids smiling at you, farmers inviting you to drink from a freshly cut coconut. People will take you at their homes and you will have access to something very rare in busy cities. The following pictures are real... I used a nice camera, but they are actual view of the place. This review is long and detailed because Velou's place deserves to be better-known. We hope that he will keep up the good work. As to the cost of such a dream... We paid Rps 1500 for one night + Rps 600 for a great dinner for 2 + Rps500 for the cab (one way). One last remark: The only flaw is that Velou has only 2 rooms. Let's hope he will add 1 or 2 more in the near future...

  • Both rooms are nice.
