Staying few days with my wife in Pondichery The Blue Younder is a very cool place ! The host, Leo is super friendly and very helpful.Clean and quiet (big) rooms, wifi, A/C, centrally located (very close to many restaurants and the beach). A total immersion in India and Pondichery. If we return to Pondichery, we go to the Blue Younder for sure !

If you are expecting a hotel type stay, don't go here! Having said that let me elaborate on Blue Yonder. It's an old local house converted into a semi service apartment. Totally there are four rooms, two double rooms and two family rooms. While the double rooms have a balcony, the family rooms don't but they have a fridge and kitchenette. Apart from this there is a common kitchen for the house with all utensils, tea bags, sugar satchels, toaster, induction stove etc. Don't expect anyone to wait on you here. You have to prepare your own meals if at all you opt to. Two bottles of water are provided which can be refilled from a water filter provided near the reception. The reception itself is open from 9 am to 5pm. All the guests are given house keys and they can let themselves in or out once the reception is closed. I loved this concept as it was different from the usually stiff and formal hotel stays. You feel comfortable and at home. Leo from the reception was super helpful and upgraded us from a double room to a family room. While the double room is just enough for two people, I would recommend taking the family room for more than two people. The rooms are neat and basic. Towels, comforters and soap is available in the rooms. Get your own toiletries. I liked the place and would recommend it if you are looking for an informal local experience.

Venkat, the guy who runs the tour company and the B&B is super friendly, highly responsive on the emails (a rare trait in India) and generally responsible (his willingness does seem to wane a bit toward the end). He arranged for a car to drive me down from Chennai with stops to see some sights on the way at a lower rate than other tour companies and for an Auroville tour. Both trips were fine without any incidents. But the B&B let him down. The only positive of the room was that it was huge - a full-size dining area and a kitchen and a separate bedroom. There was enough room for a living room, but no furniture and no air-conditioning. And, no curtains or what drapery was there was broken and hanging loose. No washing facility on the premise or eco-consciousness translates to the sheets being changed every three days. But they will change the thin towels (not the Western towels, mind you, but cotton cloths) if you insist. No breakfast was provided (which was fine, as hotel breakfasts tend to be nasty anyway), but a decent WIFI was. The toilet had no flushing "button" or "lever," and I had to push directly on the machinery. The water to fill the toilet tank stopped on the first night as the dial for the water was turned accidently (many many dials and levers and whatnot there on the bathroom walls, so do not make the same mistake!), and I was told to use the bucket (kindly provided beforehand...). The first incident was fixed quickly enough the next morning, however, the water stopped for real due to some electrical problem on the third night for the entire building... Then and there I had to shorten my stay and check out. One thing that really amazed me was even then Venkat was helpful in securing me a room in a different hotel for a substantially lower rate than quoted on the web, and he personally saw me safely checked in there. That was something very touching. So we parted on good terms - as a proof, I continued to use The Blue Yonder's service for the return trip to Chennai.

Stayed at Blue Yonder while revisiting Pondy. The quality of stay was above average. The host was cordial, informative & helpful. However the room was too small. Overall neatness was good. Advantages- Cozy room/Centrally located/ Walkable from Promenade/Helpful Staff & owner Disadvantages- No Television(In case you need)/ Room is small/ No Coffeemaker/ Towels not replaced/ Housekeeping not done daily/ Poor quality curtains
