We stayed at Chidambara Vilas for 2 nights in Sept 2018 and loved every moment of it. The rooms were spacious and had vintage style furniture combined with modern amenities - the four poster bed was a really nice touch! We were given a tour of the vast property by Dinesh Kumar who had a great knowledge of the history of the area and showed us a superb view from the terrace during sunset. The entire hotel is maintained very well and it truly transports you to a different era with all its grandeur. The traditional lunch served on banana leaf was reminiscent of homemade food in Tamil Nadu and we enjoyed the different options offered for dinner. Breakfast buffet had a good selection of Indian & continental food too. We thoroughly enjoyed our time at Chidambara Vilas and would definitely recommend it. Special thanks to Dinesh Kumar & Frederick who made us feel at home!

I had visited Chidambara Vilas together with my family about a month ago. I had researched on places to be covered in our trip and read that Chettinadu mansions were not to be missed. Before I visited this place I wasn't expecting much from it. However, now I absolutely LOVEEE this place!! I owe it to our guide Fredrick and the rest of the resort's management staff for the wonderful experience. The hospitality of the staff was impeccable from the beginning as we were warmly welcomed with friendly smiles and glasses of "paanagam" (sweet concoction), which tasted divine. Fredrick was assigned to be our guide and we couldn't have asked for anyone better than him. Credits goes to him the most for making that mini tour informative yet interesting and fun-filled with his sense of humour. It was an enriching experience for us and we thoroughly enjoyed everything. Me, being a Tamil girl myself, had zero knowledge on Chettiars and their culture before I visited this place. As mentioned by Fredrick, the Chettiars were wealthy merchants who regularly travelled across the world and obtained materials from different countries to construct such magnificent mansions. Their homes were their pride and it is evident when you witness the beauty of this place. The doors..the pillars...the ceilings...hundreds of windows...they each have a story behind them. I left this place in awe...in fact I didn't feel like leaving as it was too blissful. I would like to thank Fredrick, Priya and the rest of the team for making our visit memorable! I will definitely stay at the resort during my next trip as I can't have enough of that rich cultural ambience!

We visited the Chettinad villages by car on a day trip. Our driver brought us to Chidambara Villas first and we were very well received by the staff. We asked if someone could show us around and they were only too happy to help. We were given a local drink and cold towels on arrival. One of the staff spent around an hour showing us all of the hotel and explaining its rich history. We even got a sneak peek at the rooms. We thoroughly enjoyed our time and would recommend to everyone. Our only regret is that we didnt stay for a night!

This is a property that i slightly off the beaten track, however that should not put you off. (it is only a 10-20 mins drive to the main towns/points of interest and the roads are great) It is well worth a visit / stay especially for the charming surroundings and the delightful staff. Dinesh, Fredrick, Monica and Mahadev made sure everything was taken care of and we felt absolutely at home! Dont miss the food at the restaurant

If you want to stay in a historical place - temple and chettiars house in one building - this is a perfect choice. Entering this hotel you go back in history. Furniture, equipment, style, rooms everything reminds you of another era. It is a very special place with extremely friendly and helpful staff.
