If you look for a place where you get a complete mental rest,it is the place in PURI. Complete peaceful , security, (like)home made vegetarian good food with very reasonable price-Birla guest house at Puri is the right place. The manager and his supporting staff are very much well behaved. Every room is very spacious and neat and clean. It's location also very attractive .Just opposite of sea beach. Booking is done by Kolkata office, but if room is available spot booking possible. The Place has a great location with 30 metres from the sea, beautiful landscaped garden on front and back side, clean and well maintained building, spacious rooms, good view. But a tourist needs more than the above. Let me enumerate the shortcomings: 1. The staff behaves as if they are doing a favour to the visitors. 2. Old and worn out furnitures, gates, cupboards, broken handles, non working switches, noisy Air Conditioners from 1990s, mosquitoes, bedsheet and linens with spots, old worn out dirty blankets, flat old pillows, no extra blanket or extra bed can be provided. 3. Suites with King sizes rooms are provided two rickety small single beds joined together for couples. 4. Room gates and locks are very old. It takes lot of effort even by an adult to open the main door. 5. No towels, toiletries are provided. 6. There is no intercom for any room service. One needs to go to the manager's room for any requirement. 7.They do not change the ded sheet everyday unless asked for. They do not even have ample bedhsteet/ linens for all rooms. We were not provided the white bed sheets to cover our body as they said all have been sent for laundry and there are no extra in store. Pathetic!!! 8. They have a vegetarian food available but has to be ordered in advance. Nothing is available as and when ordered. 9. Don't take the service of the manager or staff for booking rent a car for travelling. They will take you for a ride as they are hand in glove with the car supplier/broker and get commissions. 10. We shifted from a suite to a normal room on the last day of our stay. During transfer of luggage, my Sister in Law's 10 year old son forgot his purse with Rs.300/- inside in one of the drawers of the side table. The Cleaning staff named Ramkuber cleaned the suite in the presence of other staff after we shifted. He took out Rs.200/- without bringing it to notice of the other staff. He then showed the purse with Rs.100/- to other staff and deposited it to the Manager Mr. Singh. Surprisingly none of us were informed that a purse has been found. When my Sister in Law's 10 year old son realised about the lost purse, we inquired several times with the staff and manager to have our purse returned with Rs. 100/- out of the Rs.300/- in the purse. The manager and staff Ramkuber insisted that only Rs.100/- was in the purse! It made us realise that the place is not secure as well and staff not trustworthy. So,stay at your own risk The reputation of Birla is at stake due to such people, place and incidents. Immediate need is to change furniture, AC, linens and room amenities along with old staffs and management. Else I do not see anyone coming back to the place inspite of a great location.

Apart from having a beautiful garden and a decent building, I will definitely not recommend this guest house for sure. I've been to Puri 15 times and my family generally stays at Victoria club or Puri hotel. After seeing good reviews we thought of booking birla guest house for a change. The rooms are spacious but full of mosquitoes. 50% of the plug points do not work. So mosquitoes in the ground floor are a hell lot of trouble. The dining area is again filled with mosquitoes and flies. The food will make anyone cry. Vegetarian food can be so good, so, on our first night we ordered veg thali. And what they gave us was one small bowl each of dal, cauliflower fry and aloo curry with literally ONE chapati. Seriously? And this is BIRLA guest house? So from the next day we went outside to have food. Okay, then the most undesirable and 'first time ever' incident that happened to us here is that they didn't let us check-in the hotel because we did online booking and the technically 'unsound' staffs were unable to recognize the receipt from the website which bore the name Birla Guest House with dates and payment reference and everything. The manager including, was like ' this picture in the receipt is my hotel but the receipt is not ours'! And then they were constantly denying that this guest house can be booked online. So we had to call the traveling website and then they send us all the receipts that they had transferred the money to birla' s bank A/c etc etc. We presented them and then they let us in. I've never seen any more rude mangers and staffs ever in any hotel. I felt as if they were not trained for hospitality. They constantly denied to check their register for our booking saying that the receipt is not ours so you don't have booking here and literally threw us out. So we we're harassed badly. And I must say they have done this before to other boarders because they were doing it quite confidently. And one staff was pretty vindictive. I think they just do this often and they profit from the money and they bring their own people to stay thus ruining the business. Anyhow, the website helped us out and we stayed there for 3nights. But never again.

I recently visited Shri Jagannath ji temple Puri, Orissa n I must say it was an awesome trip. We stayed in Puri for four days in Birla Guest House and I can say it is the best place to stay in Puri specially families. First it is opposite to sea baech n you just have to cross the road to reach the beach. Secondly it is just 2 kms away from the temple. They have two types of room and two floors. Beach is not visible from ground floor but you can see the beach from the balcony n windows. The tariff us also very economical just 1900 for ground floor rooms, 2100 for first floor rooms and 2950 for suites. The rooms are neat n clean very hygienic. They have large n well maintained garden which make you feel comfortable. They also provide pure veg food for very reasonable prices just 90 rs per meal. Non veg food n liquor is strictly prohibited. The railway station n bus stand is just 20 mins away from ther. The staff there is very sweet n cooperative. All of them perform their duties very well.

I cannot even begin to write this review with any kind words. Our choice of this property was mainly due to the reputation Birla's carry in India. The primary facility any guest looks forward at an outstation stay is Safety and Security. If the property fails to provide you the same then there is no point of lush beautiful gardens and clean premises. Our stay at Puri turned to the worst nightmare the first morning itself. Four room cleaners entered our double suite for cleaning and they robbed us of our gold chain and ring which we kept inside our wallet. We caught them red handed but by then they have misplaced the good ornaments to some place we couldn't find. We called police and they searched them but to vain. On top of all this the manager kept taking the side of the cleaners and didn't make any proactive cooperation. We had to call the police by ourselves, we searched the rooms by ourselves and only we interrogated he cleaners. The manager didn't intervene at all. When you are at outstation you are already out of your comfort zone, the management therefore becomes the primary source of your guidance but in this outrageous case the management kept silent and non cooperative. I would strongly advise to all to avoid this place as there is no guarantee of your safety and security.
