My wife and I stayed here for 1 night during our 3 week tour around Rajasthan. Pushkar is a vibrant city and very welcoming, sadly Jaget Palace isnt. Check in took a fair bit of time as he couldnt get the copier to work for our passports. Room was okay in size but the A/C is very inefficient and very noisy. We went out for a tour around the city and back for 9pm to have some dinner. The food was sort of okay but was surprised that I had to pay in cash afterwards and couldnt charge it to the room! We then had to wait a further 10mins whilst they dug deep in their own pockets for our change.....very strange! In the morning we took showers and the whole bathroom floor flooded as the over the bath shower leaked and the bath is about 2-3 cm away from the wall do it just ran down the side of the bath onto the floor! Breakfast was okay (ish) as the coffee was nice! Thats about it really. Would we stay here again? No, I am sure that there are better places to stay in this remarkable city.

This place is billed as an Indian heritage hotel and you can see why. It is like staying in a Palace from the 17th century. The grand entrance reception leads to an outside area where you glimpse the two main buildings with their beautiful balconies, partly hidden by a lovely garden area with fountain and places to sit and also sit on swings. A number of staff dress in traditional costumes and look wonderful and help you to your room. Most are ok with photos but will expect a donation. Going into one of the buildings where your room is you get an idea of what it will be like; antique furniture and ornaments are everywhere and beautiful decorated walls and ceilings are a feast for the eyes. The dining room nearby with similar ceilings and columns is even more beautiful. The lifts are the only modern out of place element but obviously necessary. You can opt for the nearby marble staircase if you are not far to your room. The room numbers are not reflected in the lifts so quite confusing. The 4 series rooms were on the first floor. The landings where your room is are like mini courtyards and have exotic centre pieces that add to the historic feel. The door to my room was locked with a padlock and a bolt. If you dont lock the outer net door from inside then in theory someone can lock you in from outside just using the bolt. Definitely dont leave your pad lock on the outside either or you might be there forever ! :) Once inside apart from the tv, noisy old air con unit, fridge and perhaps a safe you feel immersed in something like an Agatha Christie novel or a David Lean epic! The four poster bed, the beautiful mahogany furniture, the old lights, fittings and the large white bathroom complements the Palace experience. Again a bolt is used for the bathroom but is on the outside and not inside? To finish the experience there are more ornamental ceiling decorations. There is not much natural light in the room from the small balcony or bathroom window and the power fluctuated in the morning for a few minutes so was quite dark. Fun if you are in the shower. Also, I found it odd the shower curtain did not protect the gap from the bath to the wall. Dinner and breakfast was the most basic I had so far and there were no eggs. The hotel is vegetarian only and no alcohol is available. You can buy bottles of unbranded soft drinks for about 100 rupees. For one night I survived the selections on offer. To be fair a lot of it was quite tasty but not what I like. The fruit custard was the best bit. Outside looked fantastic and was just like a Palace courtyard. The lovely gardens with all the trees and plants were an excellent shelter from the hot sun. Towards the rear there was a nice size pool with Snake Mountain behind.

On arrival we were concerned as it was dark & the reception staff didnt speak great English but the room was warm & clean with a large 4 poster bed that made you feel special. The breakfast was good with excellent service. This is an ideal choice if you want a traditional option with some great original fittings. This will be a good memory from our stay in India.
