Ranikhet is a cantonment township, located at a distance of around 50 km from Almora District. Covered with oak and pine trees, this pollution free place is perfect to spend vacations. The Kumaon Regiment of the Indian Army based here is the highlight of the region. While planning a Ranikhet trip, travellers must keep the Kumaon Regimental Museum in their must visit list as it houses various artefacts from Garhwal and things of historical importance.
Travellers who are fond of nature can head towards the Chaubatiya Garden, which is just 10 km from Ranikhet. Those who are religiously inclined can pay a visit to the temples located in the town. Some popular shrines in Ranikhet are the 8th century Jhula Devi Temple, Lord Shiva’s Binsar Mahadev Temple and Lord Sun’s Katarmal Temple. The Mankameshwar Temple dedicated to Hindu God Radha-Krishna, Lord Shiva and Goddess Kalika is also famous. Due to all these attractions, Ranikhet tourism is rising beyond expectations.
While enjoying their trip, tourists can take out some time to play golf or go for shopping in local markets. One of the other things to do in Ranikhet is trekking at Tarikhet, located at a distance of 8 km from the town. Tourists can also spend some time sitting at the banks of Rani Jheel, which is an artificial lake developed by the Cantonment Board. Another such attraction is the Bhalu Dham Lake that offers splendid views of the Himalayan Range. In the vicinity of this lake, there is a small garden where tourists can relieve their weary nerves amid peaceful environs.
