Ranny is a city in Pathanamthitta district of Kerala. It is one of the largest taluks in Kerala and is known as the 'Queen of the Eastern Hill Lands'. Almost 70% of the land here is covered by exuberant forests, which gives a natural charm to the place. Tourist places in Ranny mainly include temples and churches. The famous among them are the temple at Sabarimala and church at Nilackal. Both these pilgrimage centres are of high religious value and are visited by people from all castes and creeds.
Devotees can also pay a visit to temples located in Cherukolpuzha, Kadamanitta, Aranmula, Kodumon and Kaviyoor. Parthasarathy Temple in Aranmula is famous for its Snake Boat races and Valla Sadhya festival that is conducted during Onam (Aug-Sep). The festival is a visual treat for tourists and would surely linger in their minds. The Chilanthi Ambalam Temple in Kodumon is also popular, especially for its well water which is known to cure skin diseases.
As a part of Ranny sightseeing, a trip to Chittar and Ayroor can be planned. Chittar, being a high-range area, offers a number of wonderful views to soak up. Likewise, Ayroor provides a range of opportunities to explore the wonders of mother nature. Tourists can also head towards Pamba River, which is the third longest river in Kerala after Periyar and Bharathappuzha. It is a famous picnic spot, thronged by both national as well as international tourists.
Other things to do in Ranny include shopping, relishing local delicacies and participating in on-going festival celebrations. A walk can also be enjoyed on curving paths lined by trees.
