Ratnagiri is a beautiful city located on the coast of the Arabian Sea, at the southwest part of the state of Maharashtra. Sahyardri Hills border the city in the east while Arabian Sea guards the city from the west. Ratnagiri holds historical significance as it is the birthplace of the freedom fighter Lokmanya Bal Gangadhar Tilak. The city is speckled with a number of temples, museums, forts and palaces, which form an imperative part of Ratnagiri sightseeing. The Swayambhu Ganapati Temple located on the Ganapatipule Beach is a major tourist attraction, attracting a lot of devotees throughout the year. Some other renowned religious centres in and around the city are Velneshwar, Marleshwar, Hedvi, Hatis, Parshuram and Rajaout Temple.
Ratnagiri tourist places also include the Thebaw Palace where Thebaw (Burma King) spent days as a prisoner. Mirya Bunder and Bhagvati Bunder are the other two popular tourist spots in the city. If time permits, tourists can also plan a visit to the forts of Bankot, Mandangad, Ambolgad, Jaigad, Ratnadurg and Mahipatgad.
While on a Ratnagiri tour, travellers must visit the beautiful beaches of Mandovi, Bhatye, Guhagar, Anjarla and Ganapatipule. Besides, they should not miss any chance to go for excursions to the caves of Panhalekazi and Sangameshwar.
Ratnagiri has always been a tourist's delight as it offers peaceful and sacred atmosphere to invigorate mind, body and soul. Gifted with hot water springs, splendid hills and sprawling landscapes, the city serves as the perfect place to enjoy short as well as long vacations.
