We visited in mid November 2017. The place is in a wonderful location with a view to die for, great hospitality and the most fantastic home cooked food (and you get a lot at each meal). We stayed 3 nights in the glascottage. The cottage had all you needed and was nice and clean, and a beautiful view of the mountains. It is very peaceful location, and our days were spent on visiting the nearby village, relax at the pool/outdoor lounge with a beer/wine or a cup of tea and a book, talk to the "house"-father and learn about Sikkim/India, walking and look for birds, visit a monastery and talk to the monks and admire the view from also here (driver needed unless you want to walk for hrs uphill). We also tried the herb-bath and it was a great experience and very much recommended! I recommend at least 3 nights if you are coming from far away, as it can be a bit time-consuming to get there (lots of road building ongoing so took long time to travel even short distances). We travelled from Darjeeling and back to the airport with driver, and spent approx. 5hrs each way. We did not go here with children, but the place is perfect for children.

My son, his partner and I spent three days here as part of his 50th birthday celebration. We had learned of Bisthang from a friend but were overwhelmed by its beauty and peace. There are eight separate cottages nestled among trees, each with a balcony overlooking a variety of trees and plants with the mountains rising up in the distance. And we ate an extraordinary range of foods, most of Sikkimese origin and all delicious, including slow roast pork, nettle dhal and orchid leaves! To add to our experience the owner's father helped us learn and understand the varied history of Sikkim, including the last monarch's desperate attempts to keep Sikkim independent. A wonderful experience which I hope we can repeat!

We visited Biksthang with 2 small kids and it was one of the best family homestays we had been to. Cottage was quite comfortable, modern with all the amenities. Slow cooked home made food was to die for. Kids loved it too. Apart from the great location nestled in the mountains with views of kanchanjungha, what makes this place tick are the warm souls running the place. OT, Gaxo, Dekyi, are putting their heart in their work. Bolt, the house dog is as friendly as the huge dog can be. Must try is the hot stone herb bath and local chhaang. We stayed at Biksthang for 6 days, but still could not get enough. Would definitely go there again!

Wonderful 2 days with Dekyi and family. The main house has been beautifully restored and the old dungeon converted into a dining room with quaint little heritage items in the nooks. The guest cottages are fairly new and are spread across the farm so one gets complete privacy. There is a view of Kanchenjunga from most of the cottages but unfortunately it was cloudy so we didn't see much. The cottages are spacious and have all the modern amenities. The balcony is a great place to sit and watch birds. The place also has a pool, a bar and a spa so it's a pretty luxurious home stay. The dinners were elaborate and excellent. We also had a complimentary 'chang' - the local brew. Relatively, breakfast is basic. We wanted to have local cuisine and got to have 'phale', a local bread, which was quite nice and different but it would have been nice to have more chutney to have it with.
