Heritage Citadel
by 93Hawkeye
on March 5, 2018
Perched at a vantage point atop a hill, as most forts traditionally were, the majestic stone walls of Bharatgarh Fort have 200 years of history etched in them. Painstakingly restored by Deepinder Singh, the descendant of the Virk family the original creators of the citadel and his wife Maninder Kaur, this heritage property is ideally located for those visiting the famous Sikh temple at Anandpur Sahib where the famous annual event of Hola Mohalla is held around March every year. . It is also ideally located as a pit stop for those driving to Kulu, Manali or Ladakh and need a good nights rest. The property is also well suited for a short rural vacation. Whilst I was there, children of a city based doctor were visiting with their parents and were fascinated to see a cow being milked and a pair of ducks who roam the property as if they own it. Rustom, a Tibetan mastiff puppy also adds a lot of character to the hotel.
Rooms at Bharatgarh are spacious, well appointed and clean. Service is personalised and the food is hime cooked. Maninder Kaurs bread and butter pudding is a real treat.
Deepinder has the history of his family on his finger tips and plenty of anecdotes to share whilst guests sip a whiskey on one of the many terraces of the castle.
It is important to book rooms well in advance, as the hotel does not usually entertain walk-ins.
The property has a choice of regular and deluxe rooms, as well as more elaborate suites.

The Fort with Heart and Soul

On our way to Palampur from Noida we stayed a night in the Bharatgarh Fort (0n 21 Oct 17) and what a decision it was, it is a very well maintained Fort the owners (royalty) Mr Deepinder Singh and Mrs Maninder Kaur takes great pride in their heritage. The Fort is on a hillock and you will guided personally by her highness herself Mrs Maninder to the fort.
The service and hospitality was exceptional. The staff is very warm and courteous. The food is absolutely to die for home cooked and delicious. The Sutlej canal flowing nearby is soothing to eyes and soul.
The hosts, Maninder Kaur ji and Deepinder Singh ji attention to details is unmatched, for example we had to cross a small dirt track to reach the fort and my car had gathered a little dirt, I was completely surprised that it was washed without my mentioning.
Thank you and highly recommended.

Far away from city hassles..

We celebrated our 6th Anniversary at Bahratgarh Fort. It is an beautiful place to stay. We spent 1 night and 2 days there. The cordial hospitality, jovial nature of the Royal Couple had touched us from the core. The chatti ki lassi , the yumilicious carrot cake , the homemade white butter, the feel of the royality made our stay very memorable. Our little kiddo also enjoyed the tractor ride , the opportunity of witnessing milking of cow , which in itself was the feather on the cap. We wish to come and stay again at the Fort to experience the royality embellished with humbleness and the feel of home though away from home .

Live in a Hotel family style
by Kiranbh2013

If you ever want to get lost to the world, but still be in contact with the world through social media, this is the place. This hotel is absolutely unlike those large Fort/Palace hotels run by big chains. There are no big signs announcing its location, entry to hotel property is only with prior reservations (the hotel gates are closed when no one is expected at the hotel), comfortable living quarters with home cooked meals, what more do you want. Yes, this place has all modern amenities (TV, WiFi, running hot and cold water, clean comfortable rooms, room service for fresh cooked for you only food, etc.). But in addition it has, peace and quite, no city noise, a small garden with a swing, and a very limited number of guests. You may like to sit in the garden (on the swing?) and have some Chaai & Pakoda with the Owners. You will learn a lot about the history of Sikhism. Food is excellent made with farm-fresh ingredients. The dining room has family style seating, which works out very well because of limited number of guests. We would stay at this hotel again and again, if we are in the neighborhood.
