We visited Sakleshpur and stayed in Makkithitta home stay for two nights. It was a wonderful trip. Home stay is situated in a beautiful place surrounded by different plantations. We were overwhelmed by the hospitality and food.Very tasty and traditional Malnad food was served. It is a very well maintained property. Rooms and restrooms were very clean. Hosts were very kind and friendly. A good place for weekend stay with family.

Due to the long weekend, we planned a trip to the hills and got ourselves booked into Makkithitta homestay. We started early in the morning on Friday from Bangalore and drove down to Sakleshpur. On the way, we stopped just after Kunigal for breakfast and then continued our journey on NH75. The road is excellent and there were lush farm fields on either side. The journey was awesome and we enjoyed the breeze blowing into our face. We reached the homestay around 1 PM and were ushered into our room after being served with cool buttermilk. The first thing that struck us was the greenery around the place. Lush coffee plantations interspersed by betel nut and banana plants, rice and ginger fields and three tiny hills carpeted green. There is a rivulet which flows just on the border of the estate. It is a tributary of Hemavati river named Agalatti. There are couple of ancient temples in the vicinity and a hill which provides panoramic view of the mountains around it. The homestay is very clean and the hosts extremely hospitable. Its a very good place for family who love typical old-Mysore vegetarian cuisine.

We stayed in Makkithitta for two nights as part of our 3 night visit to Sakleshpur. It was a perfect holiday weekend for us, two nights in a beautiful homestay (Makkithitta) combined with the thrill of staying in a resort bordering the forest (Rottikallu) the other night! Makithitta is blessed with an out of the world location. The bungalow is perched on the slopes of rolling hills on three sides draped in a mix of coffee estate and wilderness. Spread out on the other side, at the front of the bungalow are the cultivated plains. A short distance away, there is a small rivulet that gives birth to the beautiful Magajahalli waterfall. We were told we can walk to the waterfall, but we went there in a jeep combining the ride to the Bettada Bhairaveshwara temple. The waterfall is easy to get into, but the temple was closed, through we were there by 10.30am. Coming to the homestay experience, we chose this homestay for it is purely vegetarian, and the food was just awesome. A large buffet spread, unlimited evening snacks, local delicacies - a culinary experience to cherish! We don't eat garlic, so the food was customized for us when we informed after the first meal. Mr. Tejpal and Mrs. Saroja cared for us as if we were part of their family, and there was plenty of affable talk and help on hand. Tejpal uncle also entertained us with his magic card tricks and they were really good tricks too! The only downside is rooms that are not very spacious, but the hospitality including bed coffee, beautiful balconies and common areas compensate for it adequately! My daughter especially liked the rain dance! The morning walk led us to the nearby houses lining the estates where we were welcomed warmly and resulted in a rich harvest of jackfruit and gaint lemons to take back home! Thanks to Saroja aunty for her tips on spice shopping in Sadguru shop in Sakleshpur. On her advice, we also visited two beautiful temples: group of 11th Century Hoysala temples at Angadi, the birthplace of Hoysalas, and the Adi Subramanya temple on the lovely banks of Hemavathi at Chinniga. The river was so serene and easy that we could get into it and walk for quite a distance. The kids are sure to love this experience! Also, her directions to the rice shopping next to Post Office actually led us to discover a super small shop just adjacent to the Post Office where we got heavenly, fresh Herele fruit juice (a kind of citrus fruit normally used for pickles) to add to an all round experience!

Rooms, toilets are clean and tidy. Regular maintenance done. 24x7 hot water supply. Any time coffee/tea. Vegetarian food only (onion, garlic added to few items) Indoor and outdoor activities available. The owners take care of tourists as though they are their children.
