We visited with our family and 1 year lab(Lucky) last month. We stayed two nights. It is a perfect place who wants to get away with city and spent good time with nature. This homes stay is located in the coffee plantation. The cottage is good and neat. We have got the good view from the balcony. No TV available. You can simply relax and enjoy with good food. It is a 4.30 hrs drive from Bangalore only. There are two main attractions. 1. Open Grass land near by- It is an amazing view. Lucy and our kids enjoyed fully. 2. you can walk through their coffee plantation. You can get a feel like you will be walking through thick woods. They did not disturb the nature. At the end, we recharged and get back to Bangalore.

Our family of four(2 kids included, aged 3 & 8) visited Mugilu. We came back - deeply pleased and glad that we chose Mugilu !! Great things about Mugilu : ==================== 1. Great eco-conscious homestay where you could effortlessly unwind and enjoy nature at it's best = >*Awesome* tree cover which plays 'homestay' to wide range of lovely birds &, tiny insects. => Please do not miss the symphony of strange birds chirping/howling/hooting in a frenzy in the mornings. => Be prepared to just do nothing and yet walk away with a fulfilling experience, as mother nature knocks you over with it's glory. 2. Pleasant walk across grasslands to nearby stream 3. Nice, clean and comfortable cottage with a great view of the trees. 4. Decent food with snacks/hot-tea being served at the cottage 5. Belur + Manjarabad fort is easily doable from Mugilu making the trip even more memorable. 6. Last but not the least, fantastic hospitality from the Gurukars. Our warm host, Chandan, was kind enough to accomodate our specific requests and made our visit a memorable one. We would definitely recommend Mugilu for folks who value being closer to nature. (If you have little ones - no problem, Mugilu is perfect for kids too, as we realized) Pay a visit to this homestay called 'Mugilu' => and do your bit for the environment by supporting such eco-conscious homestays => and of course, leave deeply refreshed !

We visited Mugilu as four ppl (1 kid) and a dog. Our experience: > Location: Bang on with respect to Google maps. Takes ~5 hours from Bangalore (exiting Bangalore). > The place: 4 cottages, each one spaced from the other one...giving you enough solace. Super clean. Common dining area (where we could take our pet dog Mango). A sit down seating space adjoining the dining area...nice place to spend the evening. > Food: Excellent local food!! > Hosts: a) Service is excellent (we did not get a "no" for anything). b) Chandan Gurukar (the owner host): Am amazing person to chat with, an avid traveller and lots of stories to listen to). c) Sunthi (Ginger): ~9 year old Indie....lover girl and friendly. Gundya (thug): ~ 2 year old Indie lover boy with an attitude towards other dogs...but will sit in your lap and enjoy the company. > Their plantation is beautiful and wild...with their permission, you can let your pooch be free and enjoy the wilderness! Tips: If you love your solace, ask for the last cottage. Their beer and soft drinks are priced marginally above the market costs, so you can comfortably get it from them. Do carry your medicines with you, nothing in immediate close vicinity. There will be bugs and insects...because the place is in a plantation, none of them will harm you unless you bother them!

We stayed just one night but had a wonderful getaway from the city. What works is that it just about 3 hrs drive from Bangalore. We loved the room, the view from the balcony, the food, the wonderful hosts, the hospitable staff and most importantly the QUIET. I could hear the food in my stomach get digested :D. We also enjoyed the board games and a lovely walk in the estate. Shunti and Gunda the warm canine hosts make for great company on these estate walks. Only wish we had extended our stay. Surely going back soon!

This Homestay true to its word makes one feel at home. Surrounded by lush green trees, the cottages are clean with all basic amenities & a balcony with a spectacular view. The cottages are isolated from each other to ensure enough privacy a high point of Mugilu. The Lunch & Dinner Menu may not be an elaborate one but sufficient. There is a good spread of breakfast menu.Tumbs up for cleanliness and taste. One can experience the personal care taken by the Gurukars to make Mugilu unique, whether it is the way the cottages have been planned or the toiletries kept or the food served or the hospitality extended by the staff. Their well mannered and trained staff ensured that we were at ease during our stay. When chose to stay in Mugilu, we were clear on what we wanted-Spend a day peacefully in the middle of nature with utmost privacy far away from the busy life we lead everyday. And we admit got what we wanted and we have promised ourselves to visit again .It is heartening to know that the Gurukars are firm enough to keep this place as natural as possible (no swimming pool/no basket ball courts etc which would have resulted in cutting of many trees) and clear about the type of clients they would host rather than compete with other "me too resorts" which are popping up every where around Sakaleshpur thereby destroying the uniqueness of this region -the Greenery of the Western Ghats. A note of caution though. If you are looking for a place to stay with lot of outdoor sports/games/activities or a place with a swimming pool -- in short a typical resort, then this is not the place. But if you are looking for a place to unwind yourself, relax or just want to forget the whole world around & be yourself ,then this is the place to be. Another plus point -there is no idiot box in the room.If you are on Vodafone, then you are more lucky as it will not work here. Last ,but not the least ,they do have a variety of wines brewed at Mugilu by Mrs Spana Gurukar. Do taste some. When you feel that life has become too hectic and just want to run away from the whole world and be yourself -stay at Mugilu.
